Our health has been highjacked. Insurance companies tell us what doctors we can see, what tests can be performed, and what treatments they will allow. Doctors and hospitals have turned healthcare into a business, over-testing, over-prescribing, and losing the personalized aspect of medicine. Drug companies are profit-driven, view us strictly as consumers, pump out over-priced medications that often cause more harm than good, and sell to us through well-designed commercials overstating the benefits and understating their harms.
There is this overwhelming misconception that health is something that comes from the outside-in. Others believe that health is purely random. And most think their doctor has a strong influence over their health or that there will be some big breakthrough that will answer all of our health-related issues.
The truth is that health is an inside-out job. All healing comes from with. If you cut yourself, you heal. That healing occurred because of that powerful inborn intelligence with in you. That intelligence that had you bleed, then form a scab, and ultimately a scar. The antibiotic cream you put on it helped eliminate bacteria, the vitamin E gel helped provide nutrients for that process, and the bandage helped keep it clean, but none of those healed the wound. The healing came from within.
And when someone breaks a bone, the doctor may diagnose the fracture, and the cast may stabilize the bone for it to heal in proper alignment, but neither the doctor nor the cast healed anything. The body heals.
It is important to understand that we are sicker than we have ever been as a species. As much as we have discovered, and as we have more hospitals, doctors, diagnostic tests, and advanced procedures available, chronic disease rates have reached an all-time high.
Even the science is confusing. One study will “prove” that we are designed to eat only plants. Yet another “proves” that we must only consume meat. Both studies are run in prestigious universities, by highly credentialed scientists and doctors. Pubmed is a huge online database where you can find more than 34 million citations for biomedical literature. All that data, all those studies, all that research, and all that knowledge, yet sickness and disease continue to rise.
It is time to reclaim our health. To take charge and get fully well. This will not happen because you suddenly find a great doctor. It won’t be because the pharmaceutical company pumps out some new miracle drug. And won’t be because of some amazing scientific breakthrough.
Health isn’t something that happens to you. It’s something that happens within you. It’s something that happens because of you. It’s you who has the biggest influence over whether you will be sick or be well.
So, as you get shuffled around from doctor to doctor, get run through test and test, and get prescribed drug after drug, you must know that optimal health is not sitting at the end of all that like the pot of gold at the end of rainbow. It’s an illusion. It’s a futile quest. And think about it… the current healthcare system and your doctors aren’t even promising optimal health and well-being. Their whole goal is to reduce the symptom or manage the condition. You know a lot of people, and you are likely one of them, who do a lot of doctoring, and take a whole bunch of pills, but feel anything but super healthy.
Your health is yours. It is a gift. And it is extremely able and powerful. You have within you an intelligence that is geared and designed to heal, grow, adapt, and thrive. Focus on the things that optimize that intelligence. Eat real, whole foods. Move your body daily. Surround yourself with loving, encouraging people. Do work that has meaning and matters. Pursue your dreams and passions. Take time to work on your hobbies. Turn off the news. Listen to and read uplifting and self-improving materials. Think about what you are grateful for. Know that you are loved, that you are worthy, and that you are on this planet at this very moment for a reason.
Stop letting doctors, drug companies, insurance companies, and other businesses try to hijack it from you. They’ve been selling empty promises for too long. Your health is yours! Nobody will care about it like you will. Nobody will care for it like you will. And nobody will ever have as much impact on it as you will.
