1. Bits of advice I came across this week…
I’ve heard Kevin Kelly on podcasts and read some of his stuff in the past. He has some quality content. One post of his that I saw talked about life advice that he shared with his kids when he turned 68 years old. He said, “I celebrated my 68th birthday by gifting my children 68 bits of advice I wished I had gotten when I was their age.” He continued compiling these bits of advice, eventually putting them into a book that he titled, Excellent Advice for Living. I believe the book contains 460 bits. I haven’t read the book, but I came across a newer list he put out called 101 Additional Advices. It’s loaded with great bits of wisdom. Here are four to give you a taste…
You owe everyone a second chance, but not a third.
Whenever you hug someone, be the last to let go.
Slow progress is still a million times better than no progress.
Weird but true: If you continually give, you will continually have.
You can click here to read the whole list. It’s worth the read. As far as the book… Excellent Advice for Living… I just ordered two copies (one for me and one for my son Kyle’s 21st birthday, which is in two weeks. Shhh… don’t tell!).
2. News that excited me this week (and should excite everyone)…
Politics will always keep large groups of people divided. So, I really like when topics come up that everyone can agree are super important. One of those topics… our health and the health of our children. The MAHA Report was released yesterday highlighting just how sick our children are and listing some keys to regaining our health. The Make America Healthy Again commission released this 72-page report highlighting four specific concerns… ultra-processed foods, environmental chemicals, inactivity, and “overmedicalization.” This is just a report–with an action plan scheduled to be released in August. Of course, there is criticism of the report, but I believe it is a great first step. I also believe now is our best chance to make an impact on the devastating trend we’ve seen with skyrocketing chronic illness in this country over the past several decades. We have been pathetic. It’s shameful! It MUST change. Feathers will be ruffled, big corporations will fight back hard, and mud will be slung, but I am excited to see how much change can be made. I just hope it happens fast. Time will tell. If you hate Trump, or think RFK, Jr. is a whacko, I’d say let’s give them a chance here, as we ALL want improved health and less sickness.
3. Quote I love…
“He who blames others has a long way in his journey to go, he who blames himself is halfway there, he who blames no one has already arrived” – Chinese Proverb
