1. Book I read…
I finished a great book, Stillness is the Key, by Ryan Holiday. It is very timely, as many of us have a little more free time. We tend to think that to be successful we need to go…go… go. Personally, one of my problems is that I do something, get a project completed or reach a goal, then IMMEDIATELY look for what’s next. I am putting more emphasis over the next few months on rest, meditation, and BEING STILL! Two excerpts that resonated with me… “That is why those who seek stillness must come to…
- Develop a strong moral compass.
- Steer clear of envy and jealousy and harmful desires.
- Come to terms with the painful wounds of their childhood.
- Practice gratitude and appreciation for the world around them.
- Cultivate relationships and love in their lives.
- Place belief and control in the hands of something larger than themselves.
- Understand that there will never be ‘enough’ and that the unchecked pursuit of more ends only in bankruptcy.”
And… “The work we must do next is less cerebral and more spiritual. It’s work located in the heart and in the soul, and not in the mind. Because it is our soul that is the key to our happiness (or our unhappiness), contentment (or discontent), moderation (or gluttony), and stillness (or perturbation).”
2. Website I was introduced to…
I was recently introduced to the website, www.boredpanda.com. “Bored Panda is a Lithuanian website that publishes articles about ‘lightweight and inoffensive topics’.” (Wikipedia) And Wired contributor Evan Griffith described Bored Panda as “…a throwback to when the Internet was less an addictive, stress-inducing reflection of the ugliness of modern life, and more a place to kill time when we were bored.” Well… we need more lightweight topics right now… and many of you are bored. So, check it out. We need more laughter right now!!! 3. Smoothie modification I’ve made…
A few weeks ago, I shared that I use Daily Harvest for smoothies. I also shared that they are expensive. I still use them, but a less expensive, and almost as easy, alternative is making your own… with proper preparation. I cut up and freeze pre-measured amounts of veggies and fruits so that I can dump them into the blender, add a liquid, hit the button, and have a smoothie. My primary mix includes kale, spinach, celery, cucumber, avocado, mixed frozen berries, powdered magnesium, coconut oil, olive oil, protein powder (vanilla), coconut and/or almond milk, and water. With some simple prep work, this is a very quick and very nutrient-dense solution for people on the go. Want to get kids drinking smoothies??? Let them make their own.
