Most of you have heard about Red Light Therapy (a.k.a. photobiomodulation, or PBMT). It is a very powerful way to improve cell function, thus potentially impacting just about ALL health conditions. PBMT stimulates the release of free radicals from cells thus allowing more oxygen to be utilized by the cells. This results in increased cellular energy production and increased circulation while reducing inflammation and oxidative stress. PBMT has been shown to increase the rate and quality of tissue repair, improve muscle performance, enhance recovery, and reduce pain (among many other health benefits). We brought a red light therapy bed into our office and have been using it now for about three months. I can say, with certainty, that it has powerful and profound effects on a variety of health issues. As with any health intervention, it is impossible to guarantee results as everyone is different. Red light is the one spectrum of light that penetrates into the body. Different wavelengths penetrate to different depths, thus impacting different cells, tissues, and organs. So many devices will contain one specific wavelength in an effort to treat a specific condition. Two big factors that affect effectiveness are the amount of light you are exposed to and how close you are to the light. So, the device you use needs to be close to your body, and the more diodes of light the device has, the better.
The quality of the device you use will (obviously) affect the quality of the results. As with any newer health hack, a lot of non-reputable people and companies jump on the band wagon. So, you’ll find many devices on Amazon, but buyer beware. They may boast about all the benefits and research associated with red light therapy, which is true, but then sell you a device that is weak, poorly made, or ineffective. What I have seen is that you basically get what you pay for… so devices less than a few hundred dollars (and even many that are much more expensive than that) will not get you the results you are looking for.
