1. Song I heard and really liked this week…
I heard a song this week, called Running Out of Time, by Wyatt Flores (Thanks for sending it, Alie R.!). I love the lyrics! And yes… it is country, but even if you don’t like country music… hate country music… or cannot even bear to listen to country music… at least check out the lyrics. My favorite part… “We’re gonna die, gonna die… So, do what makes you feel alive… We’re running out of time… running out of time.” And another thought-provoking line… “Most people die at 27, get buried at 72.” Aside from the song and the lyrics, life is short… it is going fast… we get one shot here… you need to reflect periodically (right now would be a GREAT time). Listen to the song below… or just read the lyrics below…
It’s quiet in the room, flowers all around
I hate to say it’s you, have to put you in the ground
Your mama’s holding tight on to your daddy’s hand
It’s hard to say goodbye to you, my old friend
I hear you say
Are you gonna wake up before you close your eyes?
Are you gonna hold the ones you love so tight?
We’re gonna die, gonna die
So, do what makes you feel alive
We’re running out of time
Running out of time
Most people die at 27, get buried at 72
Do you ever think of heaven or where you’re headed to?
And will you be remembered when you’re long gone
Or will you be another headstone on a lawn?
I hear you say
From the grave
Are you gonna wake up before you close your eyes?
Say you’re gonna hold the ones you love so tight
We’re gonna die, gonna die
So, do what makes you feel alive
We’re running out of time
Running out of time, ah
Ah, ah, ha, ah, ah, ah
Ah, ha, ha, ha, ah
Ah, ah, ha, ah, ah, ah
Ah, ha, ha, ha, ah
Are you gonna wake up before you close your eyes?
Say you’re gonna hold the ones you love so tight
We’re gonna die, gonna die
So, do what makes you feel alive
We’re running out of time
Running out of time
Are you gonna wake up before you close your eyes?
Say you’re gonna hold the ones you love so tight?
We’re gonna die, gonna die
So, do what makes you feel alive
We’re running out of time
Running out of time
2. Cool thing I saw this week…
We live on a lake, and there is a brushy island across the lake right behind our house. Two weeks ago, we saw a deer on that island, something I had not seen in the twenty years that I have lived here. This week, I saw another deer swimming out to the island, an interesting sight if you have never seen that. The next day, we saw a doe swimming back from the island… with a baby fawn swimming with it… an even more interesting sight. I posted a quick video clip below of the two swimming back to shore. Pretty cool!
3. Something that really bothered me this week…
I saw a short news story about teen obesity. The numbers are staggering… approximately 20-25% of teens are now obese. Not just overweight, but OBESE. That was upsetting to hear, but I already knew that. What was so upsetting is some endocrinologist from a Kentucky children’s hospital saying that “There is hope.” What is that hope? She says the semaglutide drugs (Wegovy, Ozempic, etc.) are “a new solution to this long-standing disease.” Solution??? Our medical system’s failure to address the true CAUSE of health issues is a big part of why we are so sick. This doctor, along with others, will be shaking their heads in a few years, saying… we didn’t know about the side effects… we didn’t know we were causing more harm than good… we were misled by the pharmaceutical industry… blah… blah.. blah. These drugs are super expensive, have not been tested in kids, were not developed for weight loss, and come with very serious risks. Anyway… hearing this (misguided) doctor and realizing that we are heading into ANOTHER healthcare disaster that will harm children was not a great start to my day.
