1. Helpful guide put out recently…
When it comes to fruits and vegetables, we buy mostly organic… but not all organic. Each year, the USDA tests thousands of fruits and vegetables for residue from hundreds of pesticides. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) analyzes the results and puts out a list each year called the Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen. We’ve relied on this list for years as a guide to make better choices. For example… we will almost never buy or eat strawberries unless they are organic because they are so highly sprayed… buy we will buy non-organic avocados and bananas because they have tested much cleaner and are on the Clean Fifteen list. You can visit EWG’s website (ewg.org). They also study and list the best and worst sunscreens, cleaning products, tap water, and more. This is a group that we support and donate to. See the Clean Fifteen and Dirty Dozen lists below…
2. Event this week that caught my attention…
NASA’s Artemis II launched two days ago. I’m finding it more and more fascinating the more I learn about it. It’ll be the first time humans will leave Earth’s orbit in over 50 years. They will be traveling at approximately 25,000 mph and cover roughly 685,000 miles on this 10-day journey. WOW! The flight path of Artemis II is also fascinating. From what I understand, they will orbit the Earth to pick up the speed needed to get to the Moon, then use the Moon’s gravity to slingshot them back to Earth. See the animation of this flight path below (Thanks for sharing, Jack M.). And the coolest video I saw of the launch was video taken from above by a passenger in an airplane. You can see that quick video below as well. Let’s hope this mission goes as planned, that it successfully accomplishes its goals, and that the astronauts return safely. For me, it’s another reminder that we are capable of incredible endeavors. I don’t think I would prioritize going to the moon, and ultimately Mars, over improving our pathetic healthcare system or curing cancer, but… my guess is we can do both!?!
3. Quote I love…
“Pray as if everything depends on God; work as if everything depends on you.” – St. Ignatius of Loyola
I’ve known people who were big prayers… but not big doers. I believe in the power of prayer, but know that along with those prayers must come action. This quote covers both.
