The Environmental Working Group (EWG) did a study that had five laboratories examine the umbilical cord blood of 10 babies and found more than 200 chemicals in each newborn.
According to EWG, “This study represents the first reported cord blood tests for 261 of the targeted chemicals and the first reported detections in cord blood for 209 compounds. Among them are eight perfluorochemicals used as stain and oil repellants in fast food packaging, clothes and textiles — including the Teflon chemical PFOA, recently characterized as a likely human carcinogen by the EPA’s Science Advisory Board — dozens of widely used brominated flame retardants and their toxic by-products; and numerous pesticides.”
They go on to say, “Of the 287 chemicals we detected in umbilical cord blood, we know that 180 cause cancer in humans or animals, 217 are toxic to the brain and nervous system, and 208 cause birth defects or abnormal development in animal tests. The dangers of pre- or post-natal exposure to this complex mixture of carcinogens, developmental toxins and neurotoxins have never been studied.”
Did you hear about this study? My guess is that you haven’t. I think you would agree that this information is incredibly important. So, since this study was done over ten years ago, in 2004, does it concern you that it hasn’t made headline news? Well, it should. Because this very information holds the answers to most of our health care issues.
We are very, very sick these days. We are the sickest we have ever been. We are the sickest species on the planet. This is terribly upsetting. This has also spawned great efforts to improve earlier detection and better treatment of health-related conditions. While earlier detection and better treatment are great, you are already sick, already have the condition, for either of these to be beneficial. The key to optimal wellness, and true success when it comes to our health care system, is to prevent the conditions from ever happening.
One key to preventing illness is purifying. We must purify our lives. I believe we are reaching a tipping point regarding the toxicity that our bodies can tolerate before exhibiting some form of illness. The boom in chemicals, including artificial additives in our foods, pollutants from industrial processes, byproducts from plastic production, and contaminants in products that we use daily, has loaded us up to the point that our bodies simply cannot purify themselves and stay well.
These chemicals, we are told, are safe in small amounts. The problem is that they bioaccumulate, and not just over our lifetime, but we start life already toxic, as the polluted blood from our parents gets passed down in utero. This bioaccumulation is a big part of why we are seeing the greatest amount of sickness in the latest generation. It would certainly help explain the explosion of neurologic conditions, such as autism, ADD/ADHD, and learning disabilities, as well as the increase in childhood auto-immune conditions and cancers.
There are approximately 75,000 chemicals manufactured and imported by U.S. industries — and over a million pounds per year of three thousand of them! If you do not think this is a problem, or fail to acknowledge this as a significant factor in the increase in chronic illness, you are mistaken.
Let me ask you a couple of questions… do you think your odds of avoiding cancer are better by purifying your diet and environment, or by waiting for some cure to be found? Would you be healthier or sicker if you purified your lifestyle and made cleaner choices? The answers are simple! Start making better choices and avoid chemicals when you can.
