1. Healthier snack I have been looking for…
Nuts are a healthy snack, and I eat quite a bit of them. I prefer roasted over raw nuts. Someone recently pointed out how roasted nuts can be dry roasted or oil roasted. When oil roasted, the oil used is often from unhealthy vegetable oils, such as canola or safflower oil. When we looked at what we were eating, sure enough, they included these unhealthy oils. So, Lana did some digging and found some organic dry roasted nuts (which also means non-GMO). We will keep looking for other sources of dry roasted nuts, as the ones we found were really expensive, because we like the taste so much better than raw nuts (which some people find harder to digest). The 2lb. bag of dry roasted mixed nuts we found on Amazon, which you can find here. Nuts are a great, heathy snack that seem to keep me fuller for longer. Just be careful to watch your portions, as the calories add up super fast! Oh… we also sometimes add some Lily’s Dark (and/or Milk) Chocolate Baking Chips, which are sweetened with stevia.
2. Something worth remembering…
When big money is at stake, people and companies will do ANYTHING to sell more product. I delved in to the history of Big Tobacco this week. Damn! The things they did… paying scientists, manipulating data, bribing, lobbying, covering up known information about problems with their products, etc. And guess who has picked up that same playbook??? Big Pharma. Be careful what you believe, what you read, and who you believe. Take a look at these old ads that used medical doctors to sell their products, even advertising in medical journals. I want to laugh when I see these ads, but it is so far from funny. And it’s worth noting that doctors have been fooled over and over, and used to push harmful products. Just sayin’…
3. Word I love…
I have always LOVED the word VITALISM… the theory that the origin and phenomena of life are dependent on a force or principles distinct from purely chemical or physical forces. There are vitalistic forces within you that give life and magic to how your body and mind work. Our healthcare system is very mechanistic, focuses on the individual pieces and parts, but ignores the vitalistic component that allows it all to work together the way it does. I will expand on vitalism in a blog post in the next couple of weeks. For now… don’t ignore the fact that there is an innate intelligence within you that is more powerful than any of us could ever imagine. Chemistry and physics can’t possibly explain it all!
