1. Text worth sharing…
“Why would a child need chiropractic care?” That’s a question a lot of people ask. Our primary concern with any patient is how the nervous system is functioning. The most common area the nervous system gets disrupted is where the nerves exit the spine. So, we work on the spine to help the nervous system. That means that while we help with aches, pains, stiffness, and headaches, we are also able to help with organs, tissues, and cells… because the nervous system controls these areas. Kids have a spine and nervous system. Newborn babies have a spine and nervous system. Spinal dysfunction impairing nerve function can happen at ANY age. Being curled up for 9 months in utero can be tough. Being born is tough. Learning how to walk and ride a bike and play sports is tough. So… younger people can definitely have issues that need correcting–and a bonus, it is usually easier to correct these issues in younger people. The most common things we see kids and babies for is not neck pain, back pain, and headaches (although we do see a lot of that). The most common conditions that bring children and babies into our office are colic, constipation, reflux, asthma, allergies, and ear infections. All CAN be the result of spinal issues affecting the nervous system. (We call it subluxation.) I saw a 7-month-old baby last week suffering with colic, constipation, very poor sleep patterns, and overall fussy and uncomfortable. I adjusted that baby last Thursday. I texted the mother on Sunday asking if they had any questions about what we did or what we talked about and asked if they had noticed any changes after the adjustment. See a screenshot of her response below. Remember… this is without putting anything in his body… or taking anything out…this was after just ONE adjustment.
2. New experience I had this week…
Lana and I flew to Orlando yesterday to take my mother-in-law, Sharon, to the Andrea Bocelli concert for her 80th birthday. I’ve been to LOTS of concerts, but mostly country and rock…NEVER opera. Well… one word… WOW! What an event! He performed with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and Opera Orlando chorus, along with a few special guests. Unbelievable! Super powerful. And like any experience, who you’re with matters. Seeing Sharon that excited, having such a great time, and being moved to tears by Andrea Bocelli’s voice made it that much more special. And with my daughter, Emma, in grad school in Orlando, she was able to join us for dinner (to celebrate her birthday, which was earlier this week). I was reminded, as I was when I took my dad to a Cleveland Indians World Series game in 1995, why taking the time, spending the money, and making it happen is SO IMPORTANT… and SO WORTH IT. What a great night! See the clip below of Bocelli from his Orlando show last year…
3. Wellness tip…
There are just under eight weeks until Thanksgiving. This is the PERFECT time to do a 7-week health kick. I tend to adhere to what I call cranking… and coasting… where I eat super clean, work out harder, and implement other stricter healthy habits for a chunk of time, then ease up a bit and coast. I tend to crank this time of year, until Thanksgiving, then coast through the holidays. I then crank once the new year hits through spring, then coast through summer. So… you have about six days to plan and prep, then seven weeks to get after it. My plan? I will be doing a 24-hour, water only, fast every Monday. I’ll eat dinner on Sunday, then not eat again until dinner on Monday. Occasionally, I will not eat again until lunch on Tuesday (40+ hour fast), which is what I did last week. On the other days, I will do 18-hour fasts, which involves skipping breakfast and only eating two meals per day within about a six-hour window. I will not snack, and I will limit my sugar and alcohol intake. I will also increase my weight training, drink more water, try to use my phone less, and read more. I will also be very consistent with a few other health-boosting modalities during this time… red light therapy, infrared sauna, PEMF, and oxygen therapy. Enough about me… what are YOU going to do??? No one wants to be super strict through the holidays… so crank through these next 6-7 weeks… so you can coast through the holidays and enjoy them more.
