1. Coolest thing I saw this week…
After last Tuesday’s rain, a rainbow emerged. I’m not sure the pics I took quite do it justice, but it was the most vibrant, clear rainbow I have ever seen. And I believe it is the first time I saw a complete rainbow. Check out the pics and the 9 second video. Pretty cool!
2. Something I am re-diving into…
At the root of success is our beliefs. Our intentions, excitement, and behaviors are dictated by our beliefs. I realized that I had gotten lazy in regards to this these past few years, and if I am going to achieve the bigger goals I want to achieve, they will only happen if I change my beliefs surrounding those goals. The podcast that got me re-thinking about these beliefs and reminded me of the power of these beliefs is a podcast that Tom Bilyeu did with John Assaraf, titled, How to Upgrade Your Mindset. Click here to listen.
As for beliefs, and their power to enhance or limit our potential, here is a great little story…
A man was walking by a circus tent and noticed that the large elephants where tied off to a stake in the ground and held by a fairly thin rope. He thought it odd that such a small rope could hold such a large animal. He stopped and asked one of the animal trainers about it. The trainer explained that they tie the leg of the elephant to the stake when they are young and small. At that age, the rope is enough to hold them. Once the elephant realizes that it cannot uproot the stake, it accepts that there is nothing it can do. Because that belief is ingrained into their minds, the elephants never challenge that small rope, even as full-grown adult elephants, who could yank the stake out with ease.
What beliefs have you hung on to that are keeping you from achieving all you can achieve? Think about it. That podcast I referenced above and this simple elephant story pushed me this week to re-think what I am doing, what I am not doing, and why.
3. Wellness tip…
I believe that walking, as simple as it is, is the best movement/exercise humans can do. This is THE BEST time of year to get out and hike. Walking on treadmills and sidewalks isn’t bad, but getting in the woods is so much better. The dirt provides some cushion, the uneven terrain works your ankles, knees, hips, and spine in a very dynamic and natural way, and the fresh air and nature sounds are an added bonus. If it’s cold, bundle up. If it’s snowing, wear boots. Even if it’s raining, you can gear up and get out there. Want an even better workout? Vary the intensity of your hike. Walk at normal speed for a few minutes, then at a quicker pace for 30 seconds. Repeating that cycle gets the heart rate up and compounds the benefits of the hike. The Cleveland Metroparks has their Fall Hiking Spree that runs from Sept 1st to November 30th if you are local and have any interest… https://www.summitmetroparks.org/hiking-spree.aspx
