1. Feedback wanted…
I have been doing Friday’s Findings for many years, and now I am requesting your feedback…please watch the video below.
2. Startling stat I re-read this week…
Properly prescribed medications cause over 100,000 deaths every year…100,000 DEATHS!!! WOW! Let that sink in. And these are deaths due to properly prescribed medication… which does not include recreational drugs (like cocaine or heroin)… does not include those that were supposed to take two pills, but took four… and does not include receiving the wrong medication or dosage. To put this into perspective, it is equivalent to two and half jumbo jet crashes EVERY DAY for a year. The scary thing is that this was first noted three decades ago, yet the problem continues to worsen. One more scary stat to upset your day… Medical errors are the third leading cause of death in the U.S. YIKES! There’s a time and a place for medical care and medication, but you MUST do everything you can to avoid taking these dangerous drugs and having risky medical procedures.
3. Something I thought more about this week…
Hormones, neurotransmitters, and other chemicals in our bodies dictate how much energy we have, how happy we feel, how motivated we are, and how we think about and view the world. I took a deeper dive this week into dopamine, a powerful neurotransmitter known as the “feel-good” hormone. It is often misunderstood as being responsible for the pleasure you get from getting things, but dopamine actually increases, and you get its goodness in the journey of trying to attain the thing you want. Andrew Huberman put it beautifully in a short clip I saw this week… “Dopamine is not about the pursuit of pleasure… it’s about the pleasure of pursuit.” Getting things quickly and easily fail to bring us true happiness (and can lead to addiction), so let’s get excited about the hard work, about the difficult path, and about the journey. Our dopamine will go up, we’ll feel better, and we’ll experience more happiness. Watch the quick clip of Huberman below…
