1. Question I have been getting a lot this week…
Many people have been asking about the new COVID booster shots that are being recommended. I have to remind them that drugs (of any kind) are out of my scope of practice and that I cannot make any recommendations. I usually then share some data or tell them where to look for more info. The job of ANY doctor is not to tell people what to do, but to educate them in a way that they have enough information to make an educated, safe, and effective decision. ALL healthcare decisions should be up to the patient. In regards to this new COVID booster, I do know that there were no human studies performed. Therefore, we have no data on safety or effectiveness, yet are going to inject it into tens of millions of Americans. Seems unscientific and very scary to me, but that’s just my opinion. Dr. Paul Offit is director of the Vaccine Education Center at CHOP and an internationally recognized expert in the fields of virology and immunology. He’s VERY pro-vaccine. I wanted to know what he thought, so I googled it this morning and found an interview he did just 3 weeks ago and thought you should hear what he has to say about these new boosters. If thinking about getting the booster, watch this short 2.5 minute interview…
2. Incredible talent I saw this week…
This artist did 6 realistic portraits (4 drawings and 2 paintings) that are incredible. But what makes it even more incredible is that she did them simultaneously (WOW!)… with her hands and her feet (WOW! WOW!) See the image below to see the finished portraits and/or watch the video of her doing it. The video is a super high-speed 1-minute version. The work actually took her 20 hours total. I’m continuously amazed at what humans are capable of. So cool!
3. Wellness tip…
Walking or hiking is probably the BEST form of exercise for humans. Why? Because it is easy on the joints, gets your heart pounding and blood flowing, builds muscle, aids your digestion, helps balance hormones, boosts your immune function, boosts brain function, reduces your risk of ALL chronic illness (diabetes, heart disease, cancer, stroke, dementia, Alzheimer’s, depression, etc.), and burns calories and fat. Oh… and it’s FREE! And… it’s easy! And… you can do it just about anywhere! And… it’s the oldest form of exercise in human history! If you keep telling yourself you’re going to start exercising, but don’t, then start NOW… with going for a 10 to 20 minute walk or hike. It is super underrated. Well? Get going!
