1. Something I learned this week…
I’ve always enjoyed the long weekend with Labor Day, but never really knew anything about. So, I read up on it. Here are a few facts I did not know…
– Labor Day was declared a national holiday in 1894.
– On Sept. 5, 1882, union leaders in New York City organized what’s thought to be the first Labor Day parade.
– Labor Day was partially born out of protests to the long work hours (12-hour days, 6 days a week) and harsh working conditions at that time.
– It is a day “to honor and recognize the labor movement and the works and contributions of laborers to the developments and achievements of the United States.” (Wikipedia)
Have a GREAT long weekend!!!
2. Cool experience I had this week…
A couple of friends travel back and forth between their business here and their ranch in Tennessee. They came in for their appointment yesterday, landing behind our office in their helicopter. They took Lana and me for a ride, which was super cool. The best part… I have my helicopter rating/license, but haven’t flown a helicopter in over ten years. Well… he let me take the controls and fly it for a bit, and it was AWESOME! I like flying airplanes… but I LOVE flying helicopters. Thanks, Ron and Jen! We had an absolute blast!
3. Crazy picture I saw this week…
Check out the picture below. It is Wilt Chamberlain on the left and Andre the Giant on the right. Can you guess who that is in the middle? (see below the pic for the answer)
That is Arnold Schwarzenegger! Crazy, eh? That’s how big those other dudes are. Wow! That was on the set of Conan the Destroyer in 1983. (Thanks, Dr. Jon, for sending that pic!)
