1. Something I have been working on…
I started jotting down things you could do each day to boost your level of wellness. I planned on gathering 365 tips…one for each day of the year. I’m not exactly sure what I will do with it, possibly post them on my website, share them with patients, or put them into a book. Doing just one thing each day could have a huge impact… not just on the quality of your day… but the quality of your life. I’ve got about 50 so far. Here are three for you to try over the next few days…
- Think of something you absolutely loved as a child.
- Scream as loud… and as long… as you can.
- Leave the radio in your car off today. Enjoy the silence!
2. Smoothie tip…
I love bananas, but hate that they have so much sugar. The best way that I have found to get bananas in my diet is to buy them when they are VERY green, peel them, cut them in half, and freeze them. I then use them in smoothies. Unripe bananas are high in resistant starch, which acts as a prebiotic. Prebiotics are a type of dietary fiber that feeds your gut bacteria. Unripe bananas improve the health of the gut bacteria and have been shown to reduce bloating. It’s a great way to get the banana taste without all the sugar.
3. Recurring story I hear…
I see a lot of patients. I am continuously amazed at how many health problems are the result of the medications that were prescribed by their doctors. One older gentleman told me how he was hospitalized for a few days because they thought he was having a heart attack. It wasn’t a heart attack. Then they thought maybe he had COVID-19. They tested him THREE TIMES! Those tests were negative. Turns out he was having a reaction to a medication that they had previously prescribed for him. It is amazing to me that one of the first things we have to look at (or should look at) in determining the cause of a serious health condition is prescribed medication. With over 100,000 deaths EACH YEAR due to properly prescribed medications, PLEASE be careful with medication. Side effects are not side effects… they are direct effects. And these direct effects are often worse than the condition they are prescribed to treat. I hear stories like the one I just shared EVERY DAY. Drugs and surgery should be the last resort, not the first, when dealing with health issues.
