1. Cool gesture I saw this week…
My sister-in-law, Nicole, bought a car last week. She was very happy with her salesperson and her purchase. When she went to fill up the gas the first time, she opened up the gas cap and found his business card with a short note he wrote that said… “Nicole, THANK YOU!! Here is a little something for your 1st fill up. I truly appreciate you and your business. -Jason” And he had a 2-dollar bill stapled to it. What a nice touch! I LOVE when people go above and beyond when it comes to customer service. And these days… it doesn’t take much to stand out. A good rule of thumb to be ultra-successful in life…
2. Word I don’t love, but value highly…
Humans are determined to make life as easy as possible. It is backfiring hard. The word work is a bad word to most people. Work is critical to the optimizing the human experience. It is what gets us, and keeps us, strong. Work builds character. Work instills pride. Work creates self-esteem. It should not be avoided. It should be embraced. Think of the things that you cherish most, the memories you value most, and the times you felt the proudest… it was likely right after doing something hard. Our son, Jack, just headed out to Montana for a three-month internship/adventure/challenge. He sent a pic of a slide they showed at his training with the following quote from Theodore Roosevelt… “Far and away the best price that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.” I LOVE that! Everything worthwhile requires work! Building muscle, losing fat, getting good grades, learning a new skill, competing in sports, building and maintain relationships, making money, getting up early, landscaping your yard, cleaning out your garage… all require work. So… go break a sweat, get dirty, push yourself… do hard work. It’s not good for you… it’s GREAT for you!
