1. Happy Mother’s Day…
Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers out there! A few history tidbits… President Woodrow Wilson, in 1914, signed a bill designating the second Sunday in May as a legal holiday to be called “Mother’s Day,” which was dedicated “to the best mother in the world, your mother.” Anna Jarvis, the founder of Mother’s Day, had no children of her own. And she spent her last years campaigning against the holiday because she opposed its growing commercialization. I have often thought about the unique, special, and powerful role a mother plays in the role of children, the family, and the world. I’ve found myself in awe at the instinct, connection, toughness, and dedication mothers tend to have. People have said that if men had babies, they’d only have one. I have always said that if men had babies, one would have a baby, tell all the other men the truth, and they would have none. Don’t ever underestimate the impact you are making, and have made, in your children’s lives. I can say with certainty that a MAJOR reason I am who I am today is because of my mother (Thanks, Mom!). And for mothers with younger boys… I did some really stupid stuff when I was younger, and my mother would wonder where she went wrong, what she could have done differently, and probably questioned her ability as a mother. I remember thinking… You’re an awesome mom… it’s not you at all… you’re doing a great job… it’s me… I’m just an idiot. So, moms… do not second guess your abilities. You’re doing great! You have the toughest job on the planet. While mothers should be celebrated EVERY day, this Sunday is a day when we can say THANK YOU… WE APPRECIATE YOU… AND WE LOVE YOU!
2. Join our Move More Challenge…
We have set up a fun and healthy challenge that will take place during the month of June. We’re calling it the Move More Challenge. The gist… get points for any physical exercise you do each day during the month of June, and try to acquire the most points possible. We are using an app to track the activities and points. While there will be prizes for the most points and other successes, EVERYONE wins by gaining better health. It’ll be fun, health-boosting, and life-enhancing. Call our office to get signed up.
