- Word I love…
One word I love is authentic. It is defined as “not false or copied; genuine; real.” Another definition… “representing one’s true nature or beliefs; true to oneself or to the person identified.” In a world where everyone seems to want to look like, dress like, and act like everyone else, it’s refreshing when we come across, or are around, someone who is truly authentic. They say what they believe, act in way that’s congruent with their philosophies and beliefs, and resonate high. Like a restaurant that’s truly Italian or Mexican, the authenticity is what sets it apart from the chain restaurants around it. Being that there is no one else on the planet made exactly like you, it’s important to express yourself the way you were created. Think about how you act, how you think, and what your life looks like right now. Are you living an authentic life?
2. Inspirational Video…
There are several clips of a commencement speech Matthew McConaughey gave in 2015 to students at the University of Houston. He shares 13 life lessons. You can find the whole thing on YouTube, but you can watch a 5-minute clip of it here, or a 9-minute clip here. They are different, so you might want to watch both. I loved them both.
3. Great snack…
There are times when you need to grab a quick snack on the go. The problem is that quick and easy snacks often end up being unhealthy. One of my favorite quick, easy, AND healthy snacks is nuts. I often have a container of mixed nuts on hand. They contain protein, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. They not only taste great, the fat helps to keep you feeling fuller longer. The cool thing is you can get a variety of nuts, avoid the ones you don’t like, and add things to the mix to make it even better. The other day I added crunched up dried banana slices and Lily’s Stevia Sweetened Dark Chocolate Chips. Tasted great! Be careful of some pre-mixed trail mixes because of high sugar content (which is less of an issue if you are eating them while very active). Also, while high in nutrients, they are also high in calories, so limit yourself to a handful or two.
