1. Book I just finished (and am strongly recommending)…
I just finished Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals, by Oliver Burkeman. (Click here for the Amazon link.) I have been very critical of my use of time, and it turns out, the approach and philosophy I have been taking has been futile. I have a much better idea of why that is after reading this book. This review sums it up pretty well… “This book is wonderful. Instead of offering new tips on how to cram more into your day, it questions why we feel the need to . . . My favorite kind of book is this one―a book that doesn’t offer magic solutions to life because there aren’t any. Instead, it examines the human struggle with intelligence, wisdom, humor, and humility . . . Reading this book was time well spent.” ―Marianne Power, The Times (UK) I pulled MANY useful and thought-shifting nuggets out of this book. I seldom re-read books, but I will definitely be reading this book a second time.
2. New watersport I tried…
While in Florida last week, I got to spend a couple of hours on an eFoil. An eFoil is a surfboard with an electric propeller just above the wing of the hydrofoil, which powers the board to move through the water. The motor is electric, silent, and controlled by a handheld wireless remote that syncs to the eFoil via Bluetooth. After many falls, ingesting lots of saltwater, and several spots of chaffing, I got the hang of it. Once up on the foil, you are above the waves and have no pounding or resistance. It was A BLAST! Definitely a unique feeling somewhere between surfing, flying, and floating. A shout out to Lana for getting me to Florida for an AMAZING surprise 50th trip (fishing, Kenny Chesney concert, great meals, and lots of sun!), Dr. Vince Hassel for setting up that session, and eWatersportz in Madeira Beach, Florida, (eWatersportz.com) for getting us geared up. Check out the quick video below of me on the Waydoo Flyer e-Foil…
3. Quote I love…
“Motivation doesn’t last. Neither does bathing. That’s why you have to do it every day.”
-Zig Ziglar
Remember… wellness is not something that you achieve, it’s something that you continuously do. There are lots of things working against our physical and mental health, which is why healthy behaviors are something we have to engage in on an ongoing basis. The quality of any area of your life goes up in proportion to the amount of attention and energy you give to it. Don’t get discouraged by the need to be health-conscious EVERY SINGLE DAY… get excited about it… embrace it.. and get empowered by it.
