1. Video clip on breakfast I watched this week…
What should you eat for breakfast? I tend to intermittent fast and skip breakfast most mornings. But if eating breakfast, what should you eat? According to one Harvard study, those eating oatmeal were hit with an increase in stress hormones and ate 81% more food than a group that ate an omelet. When you have starch and sugar in the morning, it leads to a spike in blood sugar, which then plummets, leading to a dip in energy, the craving for more food, less optimal brain function, mood changes, and more. The conclusion… higher protein and fat breakfasts are better. Muffins, bagels, French toast, pancakes, cereals, and oatmeal are NOT GOOD. Here is a 1-minute clip of Dr. Mark Hyman sharing that research and what he says is the WORST thing to eat for breakfast. I agree!
2. Wellness tip…
If you’re thinking about doing anything related to health and wellness, you MUST commit to it. Natural processes take time. Losing weight takes time. Building muscle takes time. Healing takes time. ALL natural processes TAKE TIME. I believe a good rule of thumb when embarking on most wellness initiatives is 8-12 weeks. There is something about 3 months that ensures success. In our office, our initial care plans are 12 weeks. Why? Because it takes the tissues involved 12 weeks to fully heal. So… whatever health initiative you are thinking about… acupuncture, weight loss, muscle development, chiropractic care, red light therapy (which we will have in our office by next month), cryotherapy, yoga, Pilates, or whatever… make sure you lay out a plan, STICK to that plan, and do so for a minimum of 8-12 full weeks. It took you a long time to get not well… make sure you give your body sufficient time to get well. That is when you will get the most INCREDIBLE results in any wellness/health initiative.
3. Quote I think about frequently…
“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
-Lao Tzu
Lofty goals seem so far away when they are set, but taking that first step is HUGE. You will never get somewhere in life if you do not get going. So… what have you been putting off, avoiding, or hesitating on? Take just one step… that first step… today. Eventually, you’ll get there.
