1. Super creative food idea I saw this week…
I saw this last week. For the person who really wants to bring cookies to a party, but is told to bring a veggie tray…
2. New study published this week worth noting…
A new Cleveland Clinic study showed that those that have lost weight among obese patients “have a 60% lower risk of suffering from severe complications from COVID-19.” According to Steven Nissen, M.D., the study’s senior author, “This study suggests that an emphasis on weight loss as a public health strategy can improve outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic and future outbreaks or related infectious diseases. That is a very important finding considering that 40% of Americans have obesity.” People can debate the impact of hand washing, social distancing, face masks, or the vaccine all day long, but there is NO QUESTION that the biggest impact you can make in regards to your outcomes when dealing with SARS-CoV-2 is your level of health prior to contracting it. I didn’t think we needed a study to prove that, but it’s good to see this study from the Cleveland Clinic supporting weight loss as a huge strategy to lower risk of complications with COVID (60% lower risk!!!). Dr. Nissen stated that these were “striking findings.” We’ve known since the first weeks of this pandemic that the most at risk patients were the obese, so finding that weight loss lowers risk shouldn’t be so striking. The bottom line… lose weight!
