1. Stat I heard this week that caught my attention…
I was listening to an Ed Mylett podcast, and he cited a study and stat that caught my attention. I jotted it down so I wouldn’t forget it. Here it is… If you applied yourself to something (giving it deliberate practice, effort, study, attention) for 3 hours per week… for 1 year… you would be in the top 5% of the world in that something. Pretty cool, eh? The key is… consistent effort over time. Three hours per week is NOT that much time. And one year is not that long. How badly do you want to become great at something? Start logging hours… be deliberate in your practice.. and stay consistent. This is how you master skills. And in this case… become among the top 5% of the world!
2. Thought I had this morning…
As I walked through the hotel lobby here in Cincinnati (We are here for our daughter Emma’s graduation from University of Cincinnati… Congrats, Emma!!!), I saw a display on the wall of several pigs… flying. I couldn’t help but think of all the ideas that, when shared with others, were met with the thought or response of… Yeah right… when pigs fly. This obviously means that they think the idea is simply impossible. It reminded me that innovation, breakthroughs, and world-changing creations are USUALLY met with this type of response. Don’t let others squash your big ideas.
3. Word I DON’T love…
I don’t love the word mediocre… which is defined as “of only moderate quality; not very good.” We are given an amazing body, the incredible gift of this life, and specific skillsets and talents. So many people go through life doing just enough… just getting by. They are content with being not bad, but being not bad is much different than being good. Don’t settle for a mediocre life. You’re better than that! You owe yourself and the world more than that! A GREAT life is so much more rewarding and fulfilling than a mediocre life.
**HUGE thanks for another successful Toys-for-Tots drive!***
Our 26th annual Toys-for-Tots drive was a huge success. I can’t thank our patients enough for their overwhelming generosity. We collected hundreds of very nice and cool toys. Each person that donated gets entered into a drawing for health and wellness prizes, and one will win a FULL YEAR OF CARE in our office. Thanks for helping us help others. See the pic below of Dr. Abood and me with six huge boxes of toys. And thank you to our staff for working so hard this past week!
