1. A post that I found super interesting this week…
It’s no secret that huge amounts of money, time, and expertise go into creating food labels that entice us to buy their products. Words like “natural,” “fat-free,” and “all-natural” are used to make not-so-healthy products sound healthier. It’s unethical, manipulative, and should be better policed. Be very careful when relying on labels and words used to describe products. We came across this quick video of a guy (@cheatdaydesign on Instagram) showing how easy it is to make something that might be among the unhealthiest food products ever (candy corn) look very appealing and healthy. He did a GREAT job with that video. He did it with another junk food (Reese’s Cups) that’s worth watching also. Watch both video posts below…
2. Expert explanation/advice I got this week…
For some reason, Nick Saban, former Alabama head football coach, keeps popping up in my feeds. I watch most of them, and I have to say… they are REALLY good. Loaded with powerful success advice, strategy, explanations, and observations. I’m sure many people don’t like him for various reasons, but when someone speaks up that has an incredible track record (like he does), has amazing success, and talks from personal experience… I LISTEN! I LOVED this clip of Saban talking about discipline. It’s simple, concise, and SPOT ON. One of the last lines sums it up very well… “We’re talking about feeling versus choice. You’re gonna do what you feel like doing, or you’re gonna choose to do the things you need to do to be successful.” Listen to it closely… think about what he is saying… then ask yourself how this information can be used to impact the quality of your life. And pass it on to someone you know that needs to hear it…
3. Something that impressed me this week…
The Cleveland Guardians had a VERY impressive end of regular season. After last Saturday’s game when they clinched a playoff spot, leftfielder Steven Kwan was interviewed… and what he said impressed me most. He was asked… “How hard are you guys going to celebrate tonight?” Kwan’s response… “I’m not going to celebrate too much. I’m going to get my nine hours. Get my circadian rhythm locked in. I’m going to be sleeping for sure.” It reminded me how detailed these athletes are about their health and wellness. Pro athletes are SUPER aware of how critical it is to optimize their lifestyle choices to ensure high energy, laser focus, injury prevention, and peak performance. He was referring to his sleep patterns, as he wants to maintain a routine so that he remains consistent and to avoid dragging in the days ahead of him. LIFE is a professional sport, which makes YOU a professional athlete… which means you NEED to be attentive to the foods YOU eat, the amount of exercise YOU get, and the amount and quality of sleep YOU get. It ALL matters!
