1. Words of wisdom I received this week…
I am blessed to be able to see hundreds of patients every week, from newborn babies to patients in their 90’s. My ears always perk up when my oldest patients share some wisdom. They have SO MUCH to share, having seen and experienced so much. This week, a gentleman in his 90’s stopped on his way out of my office, as we exchanged a fist-pump, and said “Don’t forget to stop and smell the roses.” He continued out the door, but stopped once more, turning to me, putting his hand on my shoulder, looking me right in the eyes, and said, “No… I mean it, life goes by very fast. You MUST stop and smell the roses along the way.” Life does fly by. And we can ponder what it all means. But we really do need to pause more often, be more present, and truly smell the roses. I’ve thought about what he said all week. Thanks, Jim P.!
2. More wisdom that I read this week…
The Pareto Principle, also known as The 80/20 rule, essentially says that 80% of outcomes come from 20% of causes. Noting this helps us to realize that prioritizing the most important things will result in the best results, and will do so with less effort, in less time, and with less stress. Someone sent me something that James Clear (author of the great book, Atomic Habits) posted that was titled… “Live the Pareto Principle lifestyle…” Here is what he wrote…
Relationships. Who are the few people that have the most positive impact on my life? Spend more time with them.
Priorities. What are the few actions that have the most positive impact on my day? Prioritize them.
Learning. What are the few information sources I learn the most from? Focus on them.
Stress. What are the few sources that cause most of the stress and friction in my life? Eliminate them.
I have re-read this a dozen times this week. It is SO GOOD! Thanks for sharing, Deb A.!
3. Okay… it was a week full of wisdom. Here’s one more…
