People are desperately searching for ways to lose weight, feel better, have more energy, and have more happiness in their lives. There are so many options out there, making it very confusing. To complicate things even more, you’ll hear one so-called expert say one thing, and another say the complete opposite. Not to mention, all of your friends and family seem to have their opinions and recommendations too. So, what do you do? Who do you listen to?
If you struggle with back or neck pain, you have a friend that keeps telling you that you should try acupuncture, because it helped them so much. You have a neighbor that is hounding you to go to their chiropractor because it was the best thing they ever did. And you have a co-worker that insists you see their massage therapist because it was the only thing that helped them. Those same people may even tell you to avoid all the other therapies because they tried them, and they did not help. How confusing!
To make things even more confusing, you’ve got companies spending millions of dollars on marketing and advertising to try to convince you that their product, service, or therapy is the best. Some companies go as far as hiring actors to do video reviews, pretending that they are doctors or specialists. (Not sure how that’s legal, but it happens.)
There is no magic bullet when it comes to health and wellness. And because we are all different, what might work well for one person might not work well for another. I recommend personal experimentation to find out what works best for you. It is important to try multiple interventions so that you can compare and contrast the results you get. If you are seeing positive results, then stay with it. If you are not, try something different.
And if one thing is working well, but not the complete answer to your problem, you could add another intervention. Keep doing what is working, but combine that with another therapy or product. Wellness interventions like chiropractic, massage, and acupuncture tend to complement each other. Combining different types of workouts may work the body in a way that one type of workout alone may not. One supplement may make a huge difference in how you feel, but combining that with another might have a synergistic effect and get you results that just the one will not.
I am a big fan of trying to function and perform better. I research everything I can when looking into a new therapy, product, or supplement. I reach out to the leading experts related to whatever it is I am studying directly. I then have other experts, friends, and colleagues review the information and questions I have to better vet it out.
The mainstream medical model has been failing us for a long time now. While we can count on modern medicine for acute injuries, emergencies, and traumas, it has no solution for optimizing health. The drugs, surgeries, and even a lot of the tests that get ordered carry risk. All the attention goes toward managing conditions and disease, not curing them. And almost no attention gets placed on getting you to feel and function optimally. Do not settle for popping another dangerous pill, having another risky procedure, and DO NOT accept feeling bad as “normal.”
The key is to do something, for sure. Doing nothing is the worst thing you can do. And if one thing isn’t working for you, try something else. It is critical that you do not accept aches, pains, or any other condition as your new normal. Pursuing an answer/solution is worth the effort. Of course, it takes time, requires some work, and will cost money, but there is nothing more valuable than your health, so where better to invest the time, work, and money?
So, take the time, make the effort, and spend the money. Once you find what works best, spend more time and money on that. This will help ensure you get the best bang for your buck.
