1. Great video clip I saw this week…
The Foo Fighters have a great song called My Hero. Their drummer, Taylor Hawkins, passed away two years ago. At their tribute concert at Wembley Stadium later that year, Hawkins’ son, Shane, played the drums for that song. I did not see it until this week. WOW! What an emotional performance and incredible tribute. Even if you do not like the Foo Fighters or rock music, you’ll be moved by this performance. The picture they put on the big screen at the beginning of the song kicked it off for me… a picture of the father and son together. If you don’t watch the whole 6-minute video, at least watch the first minute. And the quick solo at the 5-minute mark is pretty powerful. This kid playing this song at this event was super cool.
2. Video clip I saw this week that made me laugh… and think…
This video shows how a monkey is totally content with being rewarded for a task with cucumber… until he sees the other monkey receive a grape for the same task. He is not only unhappy, but gets violent. A lesson reflective of human behavior, reminding us how bizarre we act and what crazy creatures we are. It caused me stop and think about social comparison, contentment, and my own thoughts and behaviors. Check out the video below…
3. Coincidental post I saw this week…
My blog this week is titled “Is It the Journey?” As I get wrapped up in focusing on my goals (the destination), I need to step back and make sure I am not missing the journey. Stop and smell the roses… as they say. We get hit hard from time to time with things that remind us that life is short, and that it’s the journey… not just the destination… that needs to be paid attention to. Three days after writing that blog, I came across an Instagram post with an image of a panda with a small dragon on its back, and a caption that read… “Which is more important,” asked Big Panda, “the journey or the destination?” “The company,” said Tiny Dragon. Hmmmm… I didn’t include that in my blog, but I really like that perspective. That post was a picture of a page from the book Big Panda and Tiny Dragon, by James Norbury, about a journey the two take through the seasons, getting lost, but discovering beautiful things along the way that they would not have seen had they gone the right way. I ordered that book today. You can read my blog post by clicking here… and you can see the image of that page below…
