1. Message I heard this week that I loved… and have shared with friends, patients, and our kids…
Ed Mylett has a podcast each week with interviews of significant people. He also posts motivational and personal growth messages each week that are usually less than 20 minutes. This one is only 12 minutes, and it contains one of the more powerful messages out there. It’s a must listen…click here.
2. Word I DON’T love…
There are a lot of powerful and meaningful words that I love. I’ve posted several on these Friday’s Findings. Well.. there’s a word I do NOT love… and that word is mediocre. It is defined as… “of only moderate quality; not very good.” I believe there has been an accepted trend to just get by, to do only what is required, and to live without a strong purpose. I also see many people excel in one area, but be very mediocre in many others. This creates imbalance, unrest, and lack of fulfillment. If you use phrases like… I’m hanging in there…. I’m getting by… It’s good enough… or It’s not terrible… then there is likely room for growth, and a shift in your thinking might be needed. Expand your expectations, take chances, go bigger, challenge yourself. We know that at the end of life, most people’s regrets are not things that they have done, but things they have NOT done. Strive for a life that is bigger than mediocre.
3. Study worth noting…
A recent study out of the UK, recently published in JAMA, found that being sedentary for 10 hours or more each day was “significantly associated” with dementia. As if we need another reason to get our bodies moving. Many fear memory loss and dementia more than any other health issue. Well… exercise helps prevent these issues. What else does exercise do? Helps reduce your risk for ALL chronic illnesses. Here is a quick article explaining the recent study, which included 50,000 participants. Like all studies, it has its limitations and flaws, and we really don’t need a study to know that we need to be more active and less sedentary. Here is a link to that study…
And here are that article’s “Fast Facts”…
- Being sedentary for 10 hours or more each day is “significantly associated” with an increased risk of dementia, new research shows.
- According to experts, reduced physical activity leads to a range of negative effects, including weight gain, increased inflammation, and reduced blood flow to the brain.
- There are a few ways to add more activity to your days, including doing something that you enjoy and enlisting an exercise partner.
