1. Documentary I watched this week…
I had seen previews for the documentary The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist, and I wanted to watch it… but I also did not want to watch it. Why? Because I figured it might worry me. And I don’t like to worry about things I can’t control. Well… I finally watched it. I think it worth watching, but prepare to be a bit concerned. One camp thinks AI will make life easier and better and will be the greatest advancement in human history… but another camp is convinced that this does not end well for the human race. What do I think? It could go either way. I do love the potential upside, but the potential downside is ENORMOUS. And I am certain that it will not go off without some glitches and mistakes, I just hope those glitches and mistakes are not catastrophic. I am glad I watched it, but told Lana I don’t think she should. I think that for some people, all it will do is add to the anxiety they already have about AI. It’s a bit unsettling when the key drivers in the AI industry can’t answer some of the big questions… or their answers are not very comforting. You can watch it many places, but I found it streaming for free on Peacock. See the trailer below…
2. Fun gadget we had at our party…
We had people over for a party on July 4th. To be more accurate… our kids had a bunch of their friends over for July 4th. It was a great time, and the weather was perfect. I was trying to think of something different and fun to have at the party, and even though it was last minute, I was able to find something… a dunktank! It was a hit! We made sure the water was super cold (we added bags of ice), and it was a blast. I think just about everyone got dunked (including me… and even Lana!). The first person to try was our daughter, Emma, and the boys could NOT hit the target. One of our other daughters, Quincy, stepped up and hit the target with her FIRST throw. Quite entertaining! See the video of that below…
