1. Cool thing I witnessed this week…
I have a patient who was unable to keep his regular appointments in our office for the last few months because of COVID. He is on a wellness plan and pre-paid for the full year of care. At his appointment this week, he was talking about coming more often because he had extra visits to use up. I told him to keep his regular schedule, that he didn’t need to use visits just to use them, and that we could just carry over the unused visits into his next year’s plan. Then he said the coolest thing… “Can I donate those extra visits to someone that is having a lot of pain or financial difficulties?” Wow! I was rocked! Maybe it’s because so much focus has been on all the bad in this world, but this gesture gave me a boost. Thanks, Gene! For your awesome gesture and generosity… and for reminding me that good things ARE going on in this world.
2. Great shirt I saw this week…
I love this shirt I saw this week. Made me laugh. Then it got me thinking about how much potential gets wasted. Think of all the talent that gets unused in this world. Olympic gold medal pole vaulter, Bob Richards, said he looked around the stadium while on the podium and wondered how many people there could have beat him had they just picked up a pole when they were younger. He estimated that five million people could have beat him had they just tried. What potential is within you that you have not tapped into???
3. Interesting thing I noticed this week…
In what appears to be an effort to maximize the fear around COVID-19, many health experts are emphasizing that this is much worse than the seasonal flu. Many have argued that the CDC has exaggerated the yearly flu deaths in the past, thus making COVID-19 much more deadly. I find it interesting that these are the same doctors and experts that push people to get the flu shot every year because, as they have always said, the flu is SO deadly. Funny how the truth about annual flu deaths gets uncovered now because we have a new virus that you must fear. A recent article by Jeremy Faust, MD, who practices emergency medicine at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, describes how the CDC grossly overstates flu deaths (you can read that article here). I’ve been stating for years that the flu death numbers were inflated, but had not seen a medical doctor state this critical fact that boosts the numbers until now… “in the fine print, the CDC’s flu numbers also include pneumonia deaths.” Wow! Do you think that would bump the flu death numbers? Because so many have asked… I WILL NOT GET THE FLU SHOT THIS YEAR! For the same reasons I have never gotten the flu shot. You can see an article I wrote about this back in 2017 here. Let facts dictate your decisions and behavior… not fear!
