1. Tip I heard…
I listened to a Tony Robbins podcast this week, titled The Small Business Resiliency Kit, that shared strategies for business owners from four experts. Ryan Diess shared one tip that caught my attention… During this time, think about what you do miss and what you don’t miss. When we are in the day to day, our perspective gets clouded. We slowly stop doing the things that had meaning and significance, and do more of the things that drain us, frustrate us, or simply do not light us up. Thinking about what we miss, and just as important, what we don’t miss about life before these past six weeks, can help shape ways we can improve the quality of our lives moving forward.
2. Movie I watched…
We watched Dark Waters, the story about DuPont’s contamination of a town with unregulated chemicals, their unethical attempt to cover it up, and a lawyer’s relentless efforts to get to the truth. Spoiler alert… DuPont settled all 3,535 cases for $7.7 million. That may sound like a lot, but DuPont was making $1 billion PER YEAR on Teflon, which was causing the health problems. The chemical, called PFOA, or C8, is believed to be in the blood of 99% of humans… and stays there. There are over 600 other chemicals, almost all unregulated, being investigated now. They are referred to as “forever chemicals” because they stay in the body. The movie is bit slow, and not exactly a “feel good” movie, but one line really struck me, and is pertinent at all times, especially RIGHT NOW. After years of fighting, and having Dupont renege on its promise, the exhausted and disappointed lawyer says this to his wife… “The system is rigged. They want us to think it will protect us, but that’s a lie. We protect us. We do. Nobody else. Not the company, not the scientist, not the government. Us.” Here is the trailer if interested…
