1. Interesting report I saw this week…
There is a U.N.-sponsored report called The World Happiness Report. This is an annual report that ranks happiness among more than 140 countries, considering factors such as social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom from corruption, and generosity. Finland topped the list again (8th year in a row) as the happiest country in the world. And no surprise to me… the U.S. came in at 24th. That’s TERRIBLE! And what’s worse is that each year we get lower on the list. Last year, we were 23rd… the year before that, we were 15th. Why is this such a big deal? If you ask what the most important thing in life is, most people’s answer would be “happiness.” Well… we ain’t doing too good in the happiness department. What else? Our health system ranks dead last among the top 10 high-income countries. Oh… and we are in the top 10 for most obese nations in the world. Sorry if this bums you out (not my intention!), but we need to be aware of just how bad things are… and… that they are getting worse. So, what do you do? Moving to Finland is NOT the answer. 2. List I saw this week…
I saw a list of “8 Hard Pills You Must Swallow” if you are serious about turning your life around. I thought it was worth sharing. Read this list a few times, and really let it sink in. Here’s the list…
- There is someone out there that is way less qualified than you – living the life you want. Simply because they took action.
- You will never make lasting changes until you forgive your past self.
- You don’t need to change the world around you. You need to change how you see it.
- Social media is a tool to distract yourself from a life you don’t enjoy.
- If you really wanted it, you’d make time for it.
- Being selfish isn’t a bad thing. Fill your own cup before trying to pour into everyone else’s.
- The move you’re most scared to make is the one that will change everything for you.
- If you won’t start today – you won’t start tomorrow either.
3. Article I read last week…
Most of you know that I did 31 cold plunges in the lake in January. The Toronto Star ran a story about a woman, Dylan Friedmann, who does a cold plunge in Lake Ontario every morning, and is up to more than 1,525 days. What?!? That’s OVER 4 YEARS! Now that’s commitment! People are awesome. I’m continuously amazed at what humans are capable of. And stories like this expand my mind and reinforce that I am capable of so much more. And so are YOU!
