1. This year’s misogi…
I have committed to doing one big challenge, called a misogi, each year. Last year, I climbed Mt. Rainier, spending three nights on the mountain in 40 mph winds at 20-30 degrees below zero with the wind chill. This year, I committed to doing a cold plunge every day in January. Today was day 17. Making it more difficult is that I am doing it in the lake behind our house. The lake is fully frozen, but a bubbler keeps an area around our dock open. Most of my plunges are done before work, around 6 a.m., when it is dark, windy, and snowing. NOT FUN! A misogi should be very hard, with about a 50% chance that you cannot complete it. And basically, has one rule… don’t die trying. So far, so good! What’s your misogi going to be??? See the video below of me doing today’s plunge (Day 17)…
2. Membership I just renewed…
I’ve used Sam’s Club for years, mostly for our business and because it is closer than Costco. I had a membership to Costco for one year several years ago, but found that I wasn’t using it. Last Sunday, we renewed our Costco membership, and I’m excited about it. I believe Costco is doing a pretty good job, carrying numerous organic and healthy choices. We were able to get organic mixed berries (for smoothies), Vital Protein collagen powder, organic turkey, chicken breasts, and chicken thighs, organic avocado spread, and more. You are going to see lots of changes (finally!) in our food over the next several years, with a move toward less artificial and toxic ingredients. The FDA just banned Red No. 3 food dye, and Steak ’n Shake just announced that they will be using 100% beef tallow instead of vegetable oil. I believe Costco will continue to add better and better choices. Many friends use a lot of their other services (for glasses, hearing aids, travel, etc.), which we have not used yet, but their healthier food choices are definitely better than Sam’s Club. I look at healthy food as an investment, not an expense, so getting whatever we can for less money helps.
3. Quote(s) I love…
“You can’t be upset by the results and rewards you didn’t get from the work you didn’t do.”
-Jim Kwik
While pulling up an image for this quote I came across another great quote from Jim Kwik… “The purpose supersedes the discomfort.”
