1. Cool thing I came across this week…
We have two sets of sliding barn doors in the back section of our office. The wood for these doors came from a barn in southern Ohio that was over 100 years old. It belonged to a neighbor of one my best buddies, Jeff Snyder. We took a portion of that barn down ourselves, hauled it back here, and my super-talented brother-in-law, Craig Huhman, built these doors. (I’d say he and I built them together, but me handing him an occasional tool made me more of an observer than a helper.) Anyway… I came across copies of the original sketches of the barn that were made by the great-grandfather who built that barn. He made these sketches prior to building this barn in 1895. I think it’s pretty cool that we could use this wood and have it in our office today, and to have these historical drawings adds to its meaningfulness. See the pics below of the doors, the original barn, and the original design sketches.
2. Question I get a lot… and how I answer it…
With the continued crumbling of the healthcare system and its long history of putting profits before positive health outcomes, failing to get sick people well, and often doing more harm than good, people have often asked me, “When will the system change?” Or… “How do we change the system?” My answer… that is the system. It isn’t going to change. The solution? Choose a different system! Use our current (so-called) healthcare system for what it’s best at… crisis, trauma, and emergencies, but choose alternatives that are more natural, more cost-effective, and safer for your primary “health” care system.
3. Our 25th Toys for Tots drive…
Join us next week (Dec. 5th- 8th) as we will be collecting toys for Toys for Tots. It is our 25th year teaming up with the Marine Corp. to help local families in need of new toys to help make their Christmas special. And if you know anyone looking to get checked in our office, they can have their first day services for FREE with the donation of a new, unwrapped toy. Spread the word! And see the flyer below for details…
