1. Something I am thankful for…
One virtue I put a lot of attention on is gratitude. In this week’s blog, which you can read here, I talk about the Law of Familiarity, which states that if you are around anything enough, you will tend to take it just a little bit for granted. It’s easy to take things for granted. So this Thanksgiving, I could list dozens of things I am truly thankful for, but I want to really acknowledge one… my staff. Our office sees hundreds of patients every week and runs very, very efficiently. I could not do that alone. My team shares the same values, vision, enthusiasm, and work ethic, allowing us to have helped thousands of patients. I am truly thankful for Sue, Joy, and Alie for helping me help others, for doing so much more than simply showing up each day, and for being like family to me. Three very special people that I DO NOT take for granted. Thank you very, very much!
2. Product I love…
I finally got a weighted blanket, which I’ve wanted for a long time. The weight is designed to reduce stress and relieve pressure… giving the feeling of a hug. I’ve used it for about a month now and love it! Not sure it feels like a hug, but the weight and pressure does something to create a calming sensation. It has been studied and shown to help with insomnia, ADHD, anxiety, autism, and more. You can find the one I have here. They recommend the blanket be 5-10% the weight of your body (mine is 15 lbs.). The price has come down quite a bit on these blankets over the past couple of years, making it less risky to try. I love it and feel it really does help my sleep.
3. Great quote…
“I change my mind when the facts change. What do you do?” – John Maynard Keynes (economist)
I have often said that I don’t want to be right… I want the truth. We tend to argue our points in an effort to be right, even if the facts don’t support our position. It is especially important to question our ongoing beliefs if our lives aren’t going the way we would like, and we aren’t getting the results we think we should. Still arguing for and following certain beliefs and behaviors EVEN IF the facts have changed??? Think about that. Seek the truth… don’t just seek to be right.
