1. Great podcast I listened to this week (a MUST listen!)…
This podcast, The Model Health Show, with guest Brigham Buhler, blew my mind. The healthcare system is BROKEN! I’ve known that. And I’ve known that hospitals are profit-driven, that the FDA is corrupt, that big pharma operates like an organized crime family, and that the health of America is spinning out of control. I’ve never liked health insurance companies, knew that they only cared about making money, and knew that they have disrupted and corrupted the doctor/patient relationship, but could never figure out a few things about how they operate. This podcast lays it all out. Even I was surprised and enlightened by a lot of the information. I believe everyone MUST listen to this podcast. Prepare to be frustrated, annoyed, angry, and disgusted… and to hear words like gangsters, modern day mob, and criminal enterprise… but you NEED to know what’s going on. You can listen by clicking here. Or you can watch on YouTube by clicking here.
2. Cool graphic I saw this week…
Here is a cool graphic I came across this week. It got me to pause and think for a bit. It’s worth checking out. Anxiety and depression are at an ALL-TIME high these days. Dwelling on the past and fearing the future are major contributors to these problems. Take a moment and ponder this pic. (I found it on @successprofessional on Instagram.)
3. Wellness tip…
I recently saw a patient walking in my neighborhood. When I saw her in the office a few days later, I told her that I did not know she lived in my neighborhood. She said she didn’t. She told me that she walks regularly, but chooses different neighborhoods. I thought this was GREAT! We know that exercise is critical for optimizing EVERY aspect of health. We know that being outside brings even more health benefits. Changing up the environment, location, and route adds even more health and brain benefits. Most people know walking is one of the best exercises a human can do, and that being outside makes it better. Most don’t think of the added benefit of changing up the route you take. (Thank you, Jeanne B., for helping me realize this!) Changing where you exercise, travel, shop, or hang out can slow cognitive decline, improve memory, boost mood, and strengthen your immune function. So, start changing up your routine.
