1. Something I have always appreciated…
As a chiropractor, I work with my hands. And after 26 years in practice, I have acquired a skill set that allows me to be able to accurately find spinal problems and make specific adjustments to work to correct them. The nervous system is the master controller of the body. The only reason I work on the spine is because it houses and protects the nervous system, and spinal dysfunction disrupts proper function of the nervous system. Many, many health problems can be the result of this nervous system irritation. That is why it is the first thing I have worked on myself when I have any health issue, and why I have very regular chiropractic care myself. I have always appreciated the fact that I can provide the care I do ANYWHERE. I’ve adjusted spines in the airport, on the golf course, on boats, on the mountain when snow skiing, and anywhere it was needed. I love the simplicity of it, the ease of it, and the convenience of it. Last weekend, I was able to adjust my daughter, Quincy, at Ohio State, while being in Columbus, because she needed an adjustment. Where did we do that? On my portable table, behind Lana’s car, in the street in front of Quincy’s house. We got a few looks, a few nods, and a few thumbs up. It is the most natural, most powerful, and safest form of healthcare I have found. And I am grateful to be able to do what I do, and to be able to do it with just my hands.
2. Someone I follow on social media…
Bobby Parrish has great content, practical and applicable information, and delivers that info VERY well. I have re-posted a few of his videos on Friday’s Findings in the past. He is a trusted source when it comes to choosing healthy food options and especially on making good choices at the grocery store (and what to look for on labels). He has yet to rub me the wrong way with anything he has posted. And… he has 2.8 million followers. Check out by clicking below. To follow him on Instagram, look for @bobbyparrish.
3. Wellness tip…
The sun has gotten a bad rap over the last few decades. We NEED it!!! One thing I do, and recommend, is to try to get direct sunlight in my eyes early in the morning. Dr. Andrew Huberman was the first to turn me on to this a few years ago. This light stimulates chemical production in the body that helps with the immune function, mood, mental clarity, metabolism, and positively affects your circadian cycle, which will help your sleep at night. I also try to get natural sunlight in the afternoon or early evening, as those wavelengths of light also affect the circadian cycle, helping to prepare my body and brain for sleep. Here are a few tips to maximize the benefits of this sunlight… (1.) First thing in the morning, 10-15 minutes. Even on an overcast day, you will get light. (2.) Face directly into the sun and blink your eyes to avoid any pain or discomfort. (3.) Do not have a windshield, glass, or sunglasses between the sun and your eyes. While there are many, many benefits to exposing our eyes to sunlight, my biggest push to do it is to improve my sleep. Lack of natural sunlight throws your body’s natural circadian cycle off, which can affect the amount and quality of your sleep. I am wearing sunglasses less and less these days in an effort to boost the positive effects of the sun.
