1. Concept I spent time thinking about this week…
Goal setting is SUPER important! But simply stating a goal you want, writing it down, reading it each day, and visualizing it, will not get you what you want. Setting outcome-based goals is hugely important, but setting effort-based goals is critical. This includes the actions and effort required to achieve a goal. So instead of just setting a goal… such as “I’m going to improve my health,” you set goals for the daily effort required to get to that goal… such as “I will exercise 30 minutes each day… I will meditate for 10 minutes each morning… I will get regular chiropractic care and massages… I will increase my intake of whole, real foods, and minimize my intake of processed junk food… I will write down three things I am grateful for each night before bed.” You DO NOT have control over how much more money you will make, how many pounds you will ultimately lose, or how much better you can be as a parent, friend or spouse, but you DO have control over the action steps and effort needed to achieve those goals. You ARE in control of the amount of exercise you do daily, the types and quality of food you put into your body, the number of cold-calls you make at work, or the amount of time you commit to your kids, friends, or spouse. So, focus on THOSE activities. It is those actions and efforts that you have the MOST control over… and will lead you to your ULTIMATE goals! (See my blog post this week, Effort vs. Outcomes, for more on this by clicking here.)
2. Study I just read that’s worth sharing…
A recent study showed that chiropractic care reduces opioid prescription for lower back pain by 68 percent. The study analyzed more than 15 million patient records, and these findings were published in the British Medical Journal. Not sure why findings like this are not plastered all over the internet and on the news, with opiate issues being SO serious. The bottom line… we’ve known this for decades, that chiropractic care is one of the most effective, safest, and most cost-effective health interventions. The cool thing is that chiropractic care is incredibly effective for neck pain, headaches, numbness in hands and feet, and many other musculoskeletal problems. Oh… and an even cooler thing… because we improve nerve function, and nerves influence every organ, tissue, and cell in your body, patients often see improvements in digestion, elimination, immune function, allergies, sinus issues, sleep, energy, and more. So, why isn’t your medical doctor urging you to see a chiropractor? GREAT question! Times have changed… YOU are in charge of your health. Long gone are the days when you could turn your health over to your primary doctor. If you know ANYONE struggling with almost ANY health issue, seeking chiropractic care is an absolute must. It is clear that dangerous medications and risky surgeries CANNOT be your first choice. If there was ANY medical intervention found to reduce opioid use for lower back pain by an incredible 68%, it would be hailed as a miraculous breakthrough. See the article discussing this new study below… and thank you, Colleen O., for sending me that article this morning!
3. Quote that caught my attention this week (and a thought to ponder)…
“When you are competent, and you live in an age where there is a lot of incompetence, it makes you appear extraordinary.” -Billy Joel
He said this in a 60 Minute interview back in 1998 when asked why he thinks he has been so successful. He was basically saying that he was competent in the areas of music that allowed him to do what he does, but that because so many others are unwilling to do the work, take the chances, and put the effort in to be really good, it didn’t take too much to stand out as a superstar. A humble theory… but I’d have to agree. And this was back in 1998. Guess what… it is much easier now to stand out in almost any industry, because so few are willing to commit fully to their craft. Here’s a thought… are you ordinary in any areas where you could put in just a little more effort and be extraordinary??? See the clip of this interview below, but watch what he says in just the first minute and 25 seconds…
