1. Something I’m super excited about…
Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) are devices that stick to the back of your arm and measure your glucose (sugar) levels throughout the day. The data is sent to your phone. You can see how your body responds to different foods, so you know which foods cause more of a glucose spike. I’ve been very curious about how my body responds to different foods and have wanted a CGM for years. Well.. I finally got one. Today will be the first day I will start wearing it, and I will experiment with different foods over the next three months. You can click here to watch a video if you want to learn more about CGMs. I believe this tool may provide some of the MOST vital data that could lead to some of the MOST powerful lifestyle changes. I’ll keep you posted.
2. Article I read this week…
I read an article this week giving great insight into why our healthcare system is SOOOO broken. It was sent to me by numerous people (Thanks, Chappy, Joel B., and others!), as they knew I’d be interested in this info. It is very well-written, contains staggering stats, and will open your eyes as to why we continue to get sicker and sicker, and how broken and corrupt the system is. It’s a MUST READ article. You can read it by clicking here. One mind-blowing stat from this article… “In 2008, the average annual price of a new drug in the U.S. was $2,115; by 2021, this annual average price of a new drug had risen to $180,000. Think about that. In 2022, the average annual price was up to $257,000.” My takeaway from this article… Big Pharma is corrupt and greedy, reliance on medicine will bankrupt us, the solution to our healthcare crisis is NOT more medicine, and the best thing you can do is to make lifestyle choices that boost your health to keep you AWAY FROM needing any medication at all.
3. Wellness tip…
This is the time of year when we ramp up outdoor activities. Spring is filled with yardwork, golf, pickleball, running, bike riding, and more. These are some of the BEST activities, and the exercise is invaluable. The problem? Most people do nothing all winter, then go out the first nice weekend and overdo it. So… go outside… be active… get things done… do the exercise… just DON’T OVERDO IT! A handful of simple tips/reminders…
- Ease back into the work or activity.
- Stay hydrated
- Don’t try to get it ALL done in one day.
- Take small breaks.
- Warm up/ stretch before starting the activity.
- Ask for help if needed.
- Be grateful you are well enough to be able to do the work/activity.
- Enjoy the process.
