1. Coolest thing I saw this week…
My brother sent me a link to Twitter about Sergio Romo, the now-retired major league pitcher. The post (by Alex Pavlovic), which you can see the screenshot below, says… “Every time a kid asked Sergio Romo for an autograph in spring training, he asked them to sign his hat first. He wore this to the mound tonight:” And there was the pic of the underside of his hat with tons of signatures and printed names of those kids. The screenshot is actually reposted by Ariel Cohen, with the comment… “This is terrific.” I agree! To think how it must have made those kids feel to be asked to sign their names on his hat. So cool! Click here to see the Twitter post… And below is the screenshot…
2. Statistic that surprised me this week…
As we work harder and harder to reduce the plastic waste that ends up in the oceans, it may surprise you to know (as it did me), that we are way down the list in terms of which countries pollute the oceans the most. The U.S. is 12th on the list, with 0.30 million annual metric tons of mismanaged plastic waste and 0.11 million metric tons entering the sea. China tops the list with 8.80 million metric tons of mismanaged plastic waste and 3.53 million metric tons entering the sea. (Note this is 2010 data.) Yikes! I’m not patting us on the back, as any plastic waste is too much, but no matter how good we do, and no matter how hard we work to reduce plastic waste, these other countries have to be on board too, or our oceans are in big trouble. See the graph below listing the top polluting countries and their numbers. And you can click here to see a 5-minute video with a few more details about the waste and those numbers.
3. Quote I love…
“It’s never too late to be what you might have been.”
-George Eliot
Think about this. What have you been putting off? What is holding you back? I believe one of the greatest regrets a human can have is not pursuing what they know they were put on this earth to do. It’s NEVER too late!
