1. Video clip I saw this week…
Dopamine is the neurotransmitter that is released when we experience pleasurable activities. Humans LOVE and SEEK dopamine! Unfortunately, we are getting constant, tiny, fleeting hits of it through junk food, social media, video games, drugs, and gambling. FAKE dopamine, as these things are called, lead to a bunch of physical, mental, and emotional problems. See the short video clip below to remind you where to get REAL dopamine…
2. Stat that got me thinking this week…
There has been an increase in airplane incidents in the recent months. Enough so that I’ve heard many people express concern, with some even avoiding flying because of it. Here is something that surprised me… the number of aviation accidents in January and halfway through February this year was LESS than that same time period last year. This past January there were 63 total crashes, and 36 in February. Last year there were 80 crashes in January and 93 in February. So, 99 total plane accidents in January and February of 2025, and 173 accidents in those same months in 2024. WOW! I share this because how we perceive things is not always how things actually are. Be careful what you use to dictate your behavior. I fly small planes and have had incredible respect for how safe air travel is. I share these stats because I want you to realize that, despite the media coverage and perception of airplane crashes, it is NOT (all of a sudden) more dangerous to fly. More importantly… I share these stats to get you thinking about what other misperceptions in your life are inhibiting you, scaring you, and adversely affecting your behavior.
3. Word I love…
I love the word sacrifice… which is defined as “the act of giving up something that is valuable to you in order to help someone else” (Cambridge Dictionary). The only words I would add to the above definition would be “to help someone else or yourself.” In order to achieve great things, you MUST make sacrifices… giving up your time, skipping dessert, getting dirty, etc. And there may be no more powerful act of love and dedication than sacrificing for others. I always told my kids that if a bullet was flying toward them, I would step in front of it, and take it for them. I wanted them to know that my love for them is so great, that I would sacrifice my life for them. What do you want badly? What have you wanted for a long time? What is something you’ve dreamed of? Now… what are you willing to sacrifice for it???
