1. Article I read…
With childhood obesity, diabetes, attention deficit issues, and even fatty liver on the rise, what kids are eating is critical. What they are drinking is just as critical. This article, “Top 34 bestselling ‘fruit’ drinks for kids deemed unhealthy,” By Sandee LaMotte, on CNN.com, might open your eyes to the problem with fruit drinks for children. Two take-aways…
-“Two-thirds of the 34 sweetened drinks analyzed in the Children’s Drink Fact report contained no juice, yet images of fruit appeared on 85% of the packages. Most drinks which did contain juice capped the amount at 5%.”
-“One third of all the sweetened fruit drinks contained at least 16 grams of sugar, more than half of the maximum amount of sugar a child is supposed to get each day.”
While many health professionals recommend water and milk, remember that milk is the number one food allergen. Stick with water for your children (and you)!
2. Video I revisited…
Jim Rohn was an entrepreneur, author, and motivational speaker. I catch myself watching clips of him on YouTube from time to time. He has some VERY good info! Here is a short one that I really like. This video clip is old, but like all really good information… it is timeless. Listen to him share four questions you need to ponder. With the new year upon us, pay close attention to the fourth question. It’s only three and a half minutes long. Pass it along to a friend or family member. You can watch it below or by clicking here.
3. More on intermittent fasting…
By now, you know I am a huge proponent of intermittent fasting (a.k.a. timed eating). I usually do not eat breakfast, allowing me to go from dinner the night before to lunch the next day, giving me roughly 18 hours of fasting. When you realize the human body does EXTREMELY well with missing meals, you no longer get tied to eating on a strict regimen. This week, I got hung up taking my son for his temporary driver’s permit, which took much longer than we thought it would (the license bureau was a great place for me show my son how NOT to run a business! Haha!). I did not have time to get lunch. At first, I started to get worked up, trying to figure out how I was going to get some food. Then I realized… I didn’t really need it. I shook it off and got excited about being able to make that day a full 24 hour, water-only fast. And not only did I live to talk about it, but my body wiped out weak, damaged cells, and bolstered and strengthened my healthy cells. Look into intermittent fasting… I believe it to be the MOST POWERFUL biohack available.
