1. Event I’m really excited about…
I was invited to speak at this year’s Customer Service Revolution Conference. It’s an honor to be speaking with some of the best speakers out there, like Seth Godin, Guy Kawasaki, Tom Bilyeu, John DiJulius, Ken Blanchard, Jesse Itzler, and more. This is one of the best customer service events in North America. And I love this year’s theme… “Reimagine… Revolutionize.” This couldn’t be more timely, as businesses and individuals MUST reimagine their current practices in order to survive. And business owners, managers, and those working in the service industry that want to not only survive, but thrive… and ultimately revolutionize… attend events like this. Click the link below for more information (it is a virtual event held every Thursday in October). I can’t wait to speak at this event! https://customerservicerevolution.com/

2. A fact that shouldn’t scare you…
I had a patient this week tell me what scares her most is that up to 50% of those with COVID-19 are asymptomatic. I asked her to think about what she just said… that half the people that get this virus DON’T FEEL SICK. This is great news! I know this creates some issues with knowing who to avoid or possible unsuspecting transmission of the disease, but how fortunate are we that this virus causes no symptoms in half the people that get it (some reports say up to 60%). Sure, there are a lot of bad things about this virus, but the fact that 50% of those infected with don’t even know they have it because they have NO SYMPTOMS is awesome!
3. Funny (and interesting) thing I saw…
It’s not news that dudes don’t always hit the toilet perfectly when they pee. Public urinals tend to be the worst, with the misses puddling below. Women wouldn’t know this, but in an effort to reduce the mess, some urinals have a picture of a fly in the urinal, giving guys something to aim for. Here is some history from and NPR article…
“Keiboom (the airport manager) in Amsterdam says the original fly idea was proposed almost 20 years ago by Dutch maintenance man Jos Van Bedoff, who had served in the Dutch army in the 1960s. As a soldier he noticed that someone had put small, discrete red dots in the barracks urinals, which dramatically cut back on “misdirected flow.”
Two decades later, he proposed to the airport board of directors that the dots be turned into etched flies. According to Keiboom, Van Bedoff decided that guys want to directly aim at an animal they can immobilize. The ability to use one’s natural gifts and achieve victory over the foe while standing is the key, he explained. Guys, he felt, can always beat flies. That’s why flies are so satisfying.”
He said that when flies were introduced at Schiphol Airport, spillage rates dropped 80 percent. That whole article can be read here… https://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=121310977
What made me think about it is a much more sophisticated… and entertaining… version that I saw at the Redhawk Grill in Concord, which consists of a soccer goal with a little soccer ball hanging from a thread, creating more entertainment. See the pic below.
