1. Move More Challenge results…
Our Move More Challenge has ended. It ran throughout the month of June, and we had approximately 55 participants. It was our 1st Annual challenge and went extremely well. We utilized an app called GymRats to track activities and points. This was pulled together in a short amount of time which limited our ability to promote it. But this means that next year’s event will be even better. If you did not participate this year, you MUST do it next year. We got nothing but positive feedback. Congrats and hi-fives to all those who participated. Special recognition to the top three men… Pete S., Matt H., and Bill G…. the top three women… Barbara S., Jenny T., and Violet M. And a special shout out to Bev H., who kicked my butt in points, and… oh… is 84 years old (more like 84 years YOUNG!). We are meeting at Liberty Park in Twinsburg this Sunday to give out the awards and t-shirts. It will be a fairly small group and will include some health info and a short walk/hike as a group. EVERYONE is welcome to join us (You did not have to participate in the Challenge to come!!!!). Dr. Michael and I will both be there and will be answering any questions you might have about health and wellness. One more shout out… Dr. Michael created and organized this Move More Challenge… and did an AMAZING job. A huge thanks to him! Watch for our upcoming Eat Well Challenge and Think Well Challenge. These challenges are NOT competitions against others… they are challenges against yourself. So, next time you MUST participate. See y’all on Sunday if you can make it. Bring a friend! Use this address… 9999 Liberty Rd., Twinsburg, OH (This is the Nature Center, NOT the Recreational Center).
2. Scary announcement I heard this week…
It was announced that the USDA granted its first-ever approval of cell-cultured meat. Last year, the FDA deemed this Frankenfood “safe to eat.” This process starts with stems cells from fertilized chicken eggs. According to an article published in Scientific America (Lab-Grown Meat Approved for Sale: What You Need to Know, by Joanna Thompson)… “When it’s time to start production, food scientists submerge the cells in a stainless-steel vat of nutrient-rich broth containing all the ingredients cells need to grow and divide. After a few weeks, the cells begin to adhere to one another and produce enough protein to harvest. Finally, the scientists texturize the meat by mixing, heating or shearing it—GOOD Meat uses an extruder—and press it into nugget or cutlet shape.” 🤮 Yikes! It will only be available in a couple of restaurants to start, but will surely be in stores soon. Nevermind the fact that there is NO long-term data on how this affects human health. SOOOOO scary! Fortunately, it will contain the label “cell-cultured” (Probably in print too small to read). It will surely also contain brilliant marketing labels, such as “cruelty-free” or “slaughter-free.” (That will be in huge print for sure.) Anyway… heads up on this stuff coming our way. My prediction… another attempt to trick or outdo Mother Nature, that will make a handful of people very rich and ultimately prove to be harmful to humans in some major way.
3. Fun impromptu workout change…
We usually do weight training twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays. This morning, we were wishing we could be out in the sun… so we moved some weights and equipment out on the small terrace we have and did our workout out there. SUPER hot! But got a great sweat going… while getting some vitamin D… with a great and inspiring view. Good workout… glad it’s over. Mixing up workouts, exercises, and locations keeps it interesting.
