1. Inspirational person…
Check out this quick interview I did with a patient and friend of mine, Beth Dowell. She has amazed me. She’s been a patient of mine for over 15 years. For ten of those years, she weighed over 240 pounds. She had finally had enough and decided she was going to lose the weight. She did… she lost 80 pounds! While that is amazing and impressive in itself, what makes it more incredible is that she lost her 80th pound ON HER 80th BIRTHDAY! Wow! She had high blood pressure, was pre-diabetic, was high risk for a stroke, and had to use a walker. ALL of those things are GONE! One thing not on this video that she wished she had said… “If I can do it, you can do it.” I’ve wanted to share her story for a long time. So click here to hear her story.
2. Recipe I love…
Keto Chocolate Chip Cookies: These cookies are grain-free, gluten-free, and sugar-free. They are made with almond flour, monk fruit, and stevia-sweetened chocolate chips. They are not just okay, they are delicious. Easy and quick to make. Even my kids like them! And they will not spike your blood sugar (I’ve tested my blood glucose levels after eating them just to be sure).

3. Wellness Tip…
Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to many health conditions, such as depression, headaches, cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and even acne. Most people are very low in vitamin D, therefore supplementation is critical. Many of you take it in the winter, as you are void of natural sunlight, but I want to remind you to continue to take it even in the summer months. I take 5,000-6,000 i.u.’s of vitamin D3 in the winter and cut it back to about 3,000 i.u.’s in the summer. While vitamin D is fat-soluble, and you can take too much, that is difficult to do. And at these doses, I have no worries about running into that problem. The best way to know your vitamin D levels is to have your blood tested. The test you want is the 25(OH)D test (not the 1,25(OH)₂D test). For all the best information on vitamin D you can visit https://www.vitamindcouncil.org/. Despite all the negative press around the sun, our much healthier ancestors spent all day outside and got plenty of sun!
