1. Great thing I learned about and got to witness this week…
I am a BIG fan of just about anything that honors our Veterans. These men and women deserve so much more than they get after serving our country, upholding our freedoms, and protecting the rest of us that stay back and get to enjoy the benefits of their sacrifice. This week, Lana and I visited her mother, Sharon, in Florida. She told us about a foundation called Quilts of Valor Foundation, whose mission is to “cover service members or Veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.” The quilt must be a specific size, must have a label with the required information, and it must be awarded (not given as a gift). We not only learned what it was, but had the powerful experience of watching a Quilt of Valor get awarded to a Vietnam Veteran. And to make it even better, it was Sharon that presented it. She is a master quilter and did the label on the quilt, which was a very detailed portion with the Veteran’s name, rank, the medals he received, and more. It was so good to see the immense gratitude this Veteran had for being recognized for his service. It was an emotional 15-minute interaction and made me even more appreciative of the men and women that serve, and have served, our country. I’m grateful I was able to learn about the Quilts of Valor Foundation, grateful I was able to witness a presentation of a quilt, and SUPER grateful we got to share the experience with Sharon (who did an amazing job!). You can visit the Quilts of Valor site at https://www.qovf.org/. See the pics below of the super cool quilt that was presented and a close up of the label Sharon made for the back of the quilt…
2. Great post I saw this week…
I saw this great post this week, and it reminded me that no matter where you’re at in life, how young or old you are, or how good or bad things are going for you, working on improving yourself is a worthy endeavor. There is NEVER an argument against improving yourself. It will help you find the right path… AND… you’ll be much better prepared for whatever that path is. Here is that post…
3. Interesting video clip I saw this week…
This guy breaks down an 18-year-old’s remaining time in months (assuming a 90-year life expectancy). He has a chart with rows of dots, each row containing 36 months (3 years). It is eye-opening! Basically, about a third of the remaining time will be spent sleeping… 126 months will go to school and career… 18 months will be spent driving… 36 months cooking and eating… 36 months doing chores and errands… about 27 months in the bathroom and caring for personal hygiene. This leaves 334 months for everything else. The average 18-year-old in the U.S. is on pace to spend 93% of their remaining free time looking at a screen. YIKES!!! This rocked me a bit. First… I’m a lot older than 18, so my time seems very limited. Second… I spend more time than I should looking at a screen. Made me think about re-prioritizing a few things. Time is ticking! Life is short! Watch the video by clicking below…
