1. Some wisdom I came across this week…
I was sent this link, titled “This is too good not to share. I asked a friend who crossed 70 & is heading towards 80 what sort of changes he is feeling in himself? He sent me the following:” Click here to check out these 14 words of wisdom. I liked them all, but #10 jumped out at me… “I remain cool when someone plays dirty to outrun me in the rat race. I am not a rat & neither am I in any race.” I tend to pay closer attention to the elders out there. Their wisdom can be priceless!
2. My current wellness program/schedule…
Twice each year I tighten everything down and get strict with my health regimen. I am currently in a 12-week self-constructed program. Because I am asked about this a lot, I thought I would share it here. I have set goals to do the following… do 18 hours of fasting (meaning no breakfast) at least 5 days/week, no refined carbs or sugar 6 days/week, resistance training (weights) upper body 2 days/week and lower body 1 day/week, 10-20 minutes of cardio (varied intensity/interval) 3 days/week, and gratitude exercise (3 things I am grateful for) 5 days/week. I also have one “cheat day” per week, where I can eat whatever I want. This regimen will cut my body fat, build lean muscle, boost my immune system, improve my sleep, increase my energy, and basically turbo charge me heading into spring and summer. The numbers are doable, not every single day, and that “cheat day” allows Lana and me to pick the one day of the week when we have an event or want to go out with friends and fully enjoy eating and drinking with no regret. I would recommend setting up SOME type of specific, regimented, health-boosting plan so you have something guiding you and keeping you accountable. Make it strict, but doable. Here is a calendar Lana created in Excel for me (she has her own) that we have hung up and check-off as we accomplish our goals.
3. Fun place we went last Sunday…
I hadn’t been in Whole Foods in a long time. Well, we out by Pinecrest last week and saw that it was open (it was later on a Sunday), so we stopped in. They have a GREAT selection of healthy choices. I forgot how good it was. I remember thinking I can’t get out of there without spending under $100. Well… we only needed a few things, yet a whole bunch of things… and over $200 later, we made it out. If you’re looking for specialty items on the healthier side, such as granola, trail mixes, grain-free wraps, etc., Whole Foods is a good choice. And many items were marked with discounts, which we thought we had to sign up to be a special member. Turns out that all we needed to do was show a code on our Amazon account as Prime members. The discounts were significant, it was easy, and we were thrilled that it didn’t require signing up for anything new.
