1. Inspiring video I re-watched this week…
If there’s one thing I love to see, it’s someone doing something extraordinary… something they were told they could not do. I remind myself regularly that just because something has not been done, or just because everyone says you can’t do something, doesn’t mean that it can’t be done. Stories of people doing the “impossible,” beating the odds, or overcoming extreme adversity are my favorite stories. I posted this video a few years ago, but it’s worth posting again. I’ve watched it dozens of times. Let it be a reminder to you, let it expand your mind, and let it spark something in you. We are capable of SO MUCH MORE than we realize. Check out this video… re-watch it a couple of times… and share it with others…
2. Super Bowl ads that caught my attention…
I didn’t see all of the commercials during this year’s Super Bowl, but there were a few that caught my attention. I’m always amazed at how much companies spend to run these ads, especially the ones that are confusing, poorly done, or just plain dumb (i.e., the Dunkin Donut commercial, which paid Ben Affleck alone over $10 million and over $15 million for the 60-second spot). A few ads that I thought stood out, were well done, and that I really liked were the ads for Google Pixel, the Jeep ad (featuring Harrison Ford), and the IndyCar ads which you can watch here, here, and here. I guess spending that kind of money pays off, or these companies wouldn’t do it, but it’s SO MUCH MONEY! The two drug company ads (Pfizer and Novartis) regarding cancer were likely big hits, but I was NOT impressed and have my own thoughts on these. You can read my blog this week to get my take by clicking here.
3. Valentine’s Day
I catch myself digging into the history of different holidays. It’s pretty fascinating to see how we’ve ended up celebrating certain holidays. Not sure I ever looked into it, but this year I took a little dive into the history of Valentine’s Day. Not mind-blowing, but definitely interesting… and I thought it worth sharing. If interested, click here to check out a 3.5-minute video at Britanicca.com. Lana and I will be getting dinner and going to what’s called a Candlelight Concert, which the website describes as…“Candlelight concerts bring the magic of a live, multi-sensory musical experience. Listen to a string quartet perform music at the Maltz Performing Arts Center under the gentle glow of candlelight.” Different concerts pay tribute to different artists, including Adele and Hans Zimmer, and themes, such as Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. Tonight’s tribute is to Coldplay. I’m looking forward to it! Happy Valentine’s Day!
