1. Great post I saw this week…
I love the Olympics. I think it’s VERY cool to see the best of the best competing, breaking records, and achieving lifelong dreams. Obviously, they all can’t be winners, so there is something about seeing some come up short, make mistakes, or experience the agony of defeat. The Lindsey Vonn story grabbed my attention. To blow out the ACL in your knee is tough. And it’s WAY tougher if you’re a competing athlete. So, for her to attempt to compete with a torn ACL was super impressive. I was rooting for her. Then, to see her crash, and for the crash to be as bad as it was, was rough. I definitely felt badly for her. I saw a message she posted from the hospital, and it was GOOD! I really like what she said and how she said it. We think about what it takes to be an Olympic athlete physically… but it’s the mental aspect of these athletes that usually sets them apart. See the post below (Thanks, Betty T., for sending that to me!). I’ll also post the pic of the x-ray of her shattered lower leg that she posted. Yikes!
2. Another AWESOME post I saw this week…
As humans, we have incredible potential. We also are the craziest species. We want happiness, but search for it in all the wrong places, we don’t appreciate what we have until it’s gone, and we let time slip by, thinking what we really want and need is always ahead of us. This Instagram post that I read this week really hit me. Not sure why it takes certain posts, quotes, or stories to get us to wake up, think a little bit, and remind us of the important things, but I LOVE when they do. This one woke me up… got me thinking… and reminded me of some important things. Click on the image below to go to Instagram and read it! Then read it again. Then again, the next day. I did. Very well written.
3. Show I am watching…
I believe my favorite show of all time is Alone. I’ve posted about it before, but hadn’t seen a new season in a while. We started Season 11… and it’s so good! Basically 10 people get dropped off in different locations in the middle of nowhere with only 10 items. They record themselves and their time out there. The person who lasts the longest wins $500,000. It is so good on so many levels. To see the different shelters they construct, the different ways they hunt, fish, or forage for food, and the different strategies they have to survive is incredible. The toll it takes on them physically is one thing, but the mental game is what is so surprising to me. I LOVE this show. I’ve always had incredible respect for our ancestors…how resourceful and tough they had to be. This show gets me thinking about how tough they had it… and how easy we have it. I’ll post the trailer below. Some seasons are better than others, but I think every season is worth watching. (It’s on The History Channel, but you can watch the latest season on Netflix.)
