1. Something of interest to me…
I’ve always been intrigued with human history. Our ancestors endured incredible adversity. For us to not only survive, but thrive, through history as a species is amazing. One period of time, the 1800s, has captured my attention lately. We’ve watched three shows that help capture what things were like during that time period as people tried to head west for a better future. The three shows are 1883, Godless, and American Primeval. All of them are excellent. And all of them rocked me a bit, making me realize how tough they had it… and how easy we have it. American Primeval was pretty gruesome, but a behind-the-scenes clip said that as brutal as the show was, it was much more brutal in real life. You can watch the trailers below. I’d have to say that 1883 was my favorite of the three.
2. Something I REALLY hope to see…
There will be massive health-related changes occurring over the next several years. Toxic chemicals used in our foods will be banned, new laws will be passed to make pharmaceutical companies more accountable, and more attention will be brought to alternative therapies that are safer, less expensive, and more effective. One thing I’d LOVE to see is pharmaceutical drug advertising banned. Direct-to-consumer advertising of prescription drugs makes no sense. Why would Big Pharma be able to advertise something that you cannot go buy? The ads end with… “Ask your doctor if this drug is right for you.” Good doctors HATE this! Good doctors know what drugs they need to prescribe. They don’t need to be “asked” if a drug is right by the patient. Oh… and we are only one of two countries that allow direct-to-consumer advertising of drugs. These ads make up nearly 90% of all television advertising. With the networks so dependent on that revenue, it creates a situation that prevents them from reporting unbiased news that reflects poorly on the drug companies. It is essentially legalized bribery. Do you think Anderson Cooper would report negative news about Pfizer’s COVID vaccine when the Anderson Cooper show was sponsored by… Pfizer??? Uhhhh… NO WAY! Hopefully, we will end direct-to-consumer marketing of prescription drugs.
3. Quote I heard, and loved, this week…
“Those that don’t have their own house in order should be very careful before going about reorganizing the world.” -Jordan Peterson
I’m careful not to give advice or guidance on anything that I, myself, am struggling with, am not good at, or have no expertise in. And I definitely do not take advice or guidance from people who, themselves, are in no place to give that advice or guidance. If someone’s life is a disaster, it is unlikely that I would consider their criticisms of my life, and very unlikely that I’d take their advice on what I need to do to have a better life. The message is important, but I’m a BIG fan of considering who is the messenger. Be careful what advice you give… and be careful who you listen to!
