1. Thought-provoking video I watched this last week…
I consider Dr. James Chestnut one of my mentors. I have hundreds of hours of post-graduate study under him. He is one of the smartest doctors/scientists I know. Therefore, I pay attention when he speaks. He makes one of the MOST IMPORTANT observations and states the MOST IMPORTANT concern right now… the crumbling of the scientific process. Science is only science when it is rigorously debated and discussed, so the truth can be teased out. The censorship that is occurring right now should scare EVERYBODY. You can watch him speak about that in this 16-minute video he posted on Facebook last week. It is VERY, VERY good. You may not agree with everything he says, but pay attention to the points he makes about science, the scientific process, and how that has been significantly altered these past two years. Hear what he has to say, and give it some thought…Click here to watch the video.
2. Concept I am pondering…
In the book Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals, author Oliver Burkeman makes the following observation: “…contrary to the cliché, it isn’t really the thought that counts, but the effort – which is to say the inconvenience. When you render the process more convenient, you drain it of its meaning.” He uses the example of using computer-generated birthday cards versus sending an actual (paper) birthday card. There is something about the work, the difficulty, and the inconvenience of going to a store, picking out a card, buying it, handwriting a message in it, and walking to the mailbox to send it that increases and enhances its meaning. That got me thinking! I will be reevaluating some of the shortcuts and time-saving strategies that I have adopted to make sure they aren’t adversely affecting the quality in certain areas of my life.
3. New app I just downloaded…
Anthony Campo (owner of Anthony’s Men’s Salon in Twinsburg) and I had a great conversation about motivation this morning while he cut my hair. We talked about the importance of feeding the mind healthy words, philosophies, and concepts in this world filled with negativity, doubt, and fear. Not everybody likes motivational quotes, personal growth books, or seminars to improve performance, but we got all fired up talking about the ones that we love most. Anyway… he showed me an app he uses and likes called Motivation. It sends him motivational and uplifting quotes throughout the day. These quick reads can be the thing that shifts your thinking, boosts your mood, and redirects your focus. You can completely customize what types of quotes come through and the frequency. I just downloaded it and can’t wait to start getting those quotes! The first 3 days are free, then it’s $19.99/year. Here are a couple screen shots showing the customization and one of the first quotes I just received…
