1. A part of the brain that I spent time thinking about this week…
The human brain is incredibly complex. One part of the brain that has intrigued me for decades is called the Reticular Activating System (RAS). Simply put, this part of your brain takes things you’re interested in, and makes you more aware of things that will bring you more of that, and will filter out things that are unrelated to it. It is what helps us achieve our goals, helps explain the Law of Attraction, and is a super powerful thing to understand and utilize to help make your life better. I will elaborate on this in a blog post in the next couple weeks (because I am fascinated with the RAS), but here is a clip of Tony Robbins explaining this concept to Theo Von (sent to me by my son, Kyle, earlier this week. Thanks, Kyle!)…
2. Another great poem I came across this week…
After seeing my post two weeks ago about the poem “If,” a buddy sent me a poem that he thought I’d like. Well… I didn’t like it… I LOVED it! (Thanks for sharing that, Matt M.!) It’s a poem about joy… and is actually titled, “Joy,” by Donna Ashworth. And like most poems, I find them even better when someone else reads them. So, I’ve posted the poem below, along with the video he sent me with someone reading it. Check it out…
JOY
Joy does not arrive with a fanfare,
on a red carpet strewn with the flowers of a perfect life.
Joy sneaks in, as you pour a cup of coffee,
watching the sun hit your favorite tree, just right.
And you usher joy away,
because you are not ready for it.
Your house is not as it must be,
for such a distinguished guest.
But joy cares nothing for your messy home,
or your bank-balance,
or your waistline, you see.
Joy is supposed to slither through the cracks of your imperfect life,
that’s how joy works.
You cannot invite her, you can only be ready when she appears.
And hug her with meaning,
because in this very moment,
joy chose you.
-Donna Ashworth
3. One of the coolest things I saw this week…
We live on a lake, which allows us to see some pretty cool things out our back windows… otters playing, bald eagles flying, fish jumping, sunrises, storms rolling in, fog lifting, and much, much more. But looking out the window last night, I could see one of the coolest things yet… the hockey rink my neighbor created on the ice… which was fully lit and loaded with kids (and likely adults acting like kids). While most people were complaining about the cold this week, they capitalized on it. I posted a pic of this in the past, but it never gets old, and is so cool that it’s worth posting again. I love when passion, hard work, and play all come together. (Great job, Dr. Jeff and whoever else helped get that all set up!) See the pic below…
